Title: Paul’s Dream
Author: Rowan McBride
Publisher: INscribe Digital
Publication Status: Available
Genre: Urban Fantasy, MM Romance
My Rating: 4 of 5 stars
From the Publisher:
Paul Graham is content with his life. An up-and-coming lawyer, he has no time to dwell on the mazes, puzzles, and riddles he solves while asleep. He has no interest in dreams, or anything that might derail his career.
Until Kian shows up. Sensual, playful, he claims that Paul rescued him four years ago. Now he’s determined to repay him with the one thing he knows best: sex laced with … magic.
Kian is unlike any man Paul has encountered. He won’t go away, for one. The fact that Paul doesn’t remember him doesn’t deter his mission of seduction in the least. But soon enough, Paul finds that this strange, carnal creature has the ability to melt his ice with a touch, to bring out a sweetness Paul didn’t even know he had.
As Kian becomes a part of his life, Paul finds himself more and more attached. Forgotten dreams, buried memories, and the dangerous obsession of another conspire to tear them apart. Is he strong enough to endure a trial by fire in order to keep them together?
Contains: M/M (involves anal play, penetration)
Sometimes I am offered books to review that I just can’t wait to read. Either they are by much beloved authors, or the blurb just sucks me in. Other times I choose to review books because they are available to review and I have time on my hands. When I picked up Paul’s Dream by Rowan McBride, it definitely fell into the later category. McBride is not an author I have any experience with and Paul’s Dream is in a genre that I read only selectively. I actually put of reading this book time and again, until I finally forced myself to read it as part of a reading challenge/game I am participating in on Goodreads.
Well I am happy to say that I am so glad I finally gave this book a chance. I loved it. The beginning was a bit slow, and it took me a few chapters to really get into the story. I even set it aside to finish a few other challenge books once. I picked it up again last night right before bed and soon couldn’t put it down. McBride creates a rich fantasy world with a heartbreaking climax and an emotional conclusion. It shows the power to love, loss, and hate all while featuring some pretty intense love scenes. Paul and Kian make a sweet, loving, magical pair that are meant to be, and the minor characters are pretty fun as well. I would love to see more from this world, maybe with stories for Asher and Zakai (though I really think they would need to be separate stories, but I digress).
If you like Urban Fantasy or Magic in your love stories, I highly recommend Paul’s Dream.
I would like to thank INscribe Digital and NetGalley for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
