Best of 2013 – Part 3 (2013 Releases I NEED to read) and a Giveaway

There just weren’t enough reading days!!! Here is my top 10 books that I wanted to read this year, but didn’t get the chance.  (In no particular order)

If you have a favorite that has not yet made it onto one of my lists, PLEASE feel free to tell me about it in the comments. My to-read shelf is not long enough yet 🙂

As with the first 2 lists, I will give one lucky commenter an e-book copy of their choice from this list 🙂  (this is not a sponsored giveaway, this is just because I want to spread the love of these fabulous books)

Beyond Duty by SJD Peterson – This story started out as a short written for one of the MM Romance group’s Don’t Read in the Closet events.  It centers around two longtime friends, lovers, and closeted Marines.  They are retiring about the same time Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is being repealed.  This is their extended story. I loved Gunny and Mac in their short, now I just need to get myself reading their full story.

Cinnamon by Derekica Snake – This is the 3rd book in the series that finally made me give up my “I hate Paranormal” stance.  There is nothing in this series that I “should” like.  The main relationship starts out as a dub/non-consent.  There are vampires, menages, twisted characters, etc… But, for some reason I can’t stop reading.

Crack the Darkest Sky Wide Open by  Eric Arvin, Abigail Roux, T.J. Klune, S.J.D. Peterson, S.A. McAuley, and Jason Huffman-Black – 4 of my top 10 authors, how can you go wrong??  I haven’t read SA McAuley or Jason Huffman-Black yet (He is a newer author), but if they are in the company of those other 4 you can’t go wrong.

Glitterland by Alexis Hall – I have no idea why I want to read this one, but it just catches me every time I see it and says “read me”.  I actually will be reading it soon and will post my review here when I do.

Into this River I Drown by TJ Klune – Klune is an auto-buy for me.  I hear this one is a bit darker and twistier than he is famous for, but I am very interested to see what he does with it.  I hear very good things.

The Lion and the Crow by Eli Easton – This is another free read from the Love has No Boundaries event.  I recently discovered Eli Easton and I really like her style.

The Mingled Destinies of Crocodiles and Men by Eric Arvin – If I were to rank these 10 (which I am not doing) this would be #1.  I actually recently picked up a copy so now I just need to read it!  Ever since I finished Woke Up in a Strange Place this one has been nipping at my mind calling to me.  I also have the prequel Azrael and the Light Bringer that I need to read.  *** Update:  So I couldn’t wait until this post was published, and I started this already.  However, I am savoring it and reading it slowly when I am NOT distracted… it is as good as I anticipated. ***

The Return by Brad Boney – Boney is a transplant to one of my favorite cities, Austin, and that is where he set his freshman novel, The Nothingness of Ben, which I enojyed.  The Return is a spin-off from the characters in TNoB, and I have been eagerly awaiting it.  It is also set in Austin and involves the ever awesome SXSW music festival.  I must read it.  As soon as it ends up on audible.com, I will snap it up 🙂  (I already have the eBook version, but I am running low on new books to listen to and I know this one is available in audio)

Six Degrees of Separation by Taylor V Donovan – I absolutely loved the first book (plus 1/2 of it is set in Houston, so double win) and I was so excited that the second would be coming out… but I have yet to find time to actually READ it.  Soon, I will read it soon.  Of course this is supposed to be about a 6 book series, so I have a while to wait for the HEA.

Texas Family/Texas Christmas by RJ Scott – The Heart of Texas is one of my first M/M Romance novels, and I fell in love with the series very quickly.  Riley and Jack are definitely one of my favorite couples.  Texas Family and Texas Christmas extend their story.  I need to read these soon.

  1. I want to read the Cut & Run series, Widdershins, Diversion, Hot Head etc, which are some of the books in my huge TBR pile waiting to be read.

    • I hear you on the huge TBR pile… last I looked mine is a bout 2000 long *hides*

I don’t know if you like audiobooks, but the audio version of the first 5 C&R, Hot Head, and Widdershins are all very good.

  2. Can’t wait to read the third book in Bear, Otter and the Kid series. Tj says it will be out around January. That one I will preorder

  3. I guess the top of my list is the next one in Cut & Run that I haven’t read, Stars & Stripes. However, I’m pretty sure I’m going to be reading some shorter ones–especially Christmas themed–first. 😉

  4. You are going to love Six Degrees of Separation. I love that series. I am looking forward to reading the latest from SE Jakes, Bound to Break and both books of the Hell or High Water series.

  5. Pony by SJD Peterson and Justice for Skylar by Sandrine Gasq Dion are the 2 I am most anxious for right now. That TBR list though is soooooooooo long!

  6. Ahh yes, the TBR pile. I always seem to be adding more than what I’m taking off that shelf, the ever growing pile of books I must read. I’m hoping to get to Bone Rider by J. Fally and Seven by Adrienne Wilder this week.

  7. I have a lot of great books in my TBR pile. Right now I am into my holiday books – the two that rise to the top of that list are Christmas with Danny Fit and The Dickens with Love.

  8. There are so many books on my TBR that it’s absolutely ridiculous, but Stung by K.A. Merikan is pretty near the top. That cover had me hooked right from the start.

  9. I’m reading Omorphi by Cody Kennedy right now. I’ve read Safe and Fairy and I want to read the sequel of Omorphi already. I also want to read everything by Will Parkinson/Parker Williams, J.P. Barnaby, Laura Harner, and N.R. Walker. I read some of their books.
