The Agent and The Model by RJ Scott ~ Review by Brandilyn

RJ Scott is one of those authors on my auto-buy list.  I started reading her Ellery Mountain series month ago and fell in love with the cast of characters.  She recently released the 7th and final installment of the series.  It is the one what wasn’t originally planned, but begged to be written.  I am glad she did, as it is probably my favorite of the series.

Michael comes home to Ellery to face his past, only his present keeps intruding in the form of his agent Alex Casey, who won’t take no for an answer.

Michael Hardin is back in Ellery to face his past. The victim of a hate crime, he has memories that lie just out of his reach and nightmares that won’t leave him alone.

Alex Casey loves Michael but he completely ruined everything by treating Michael like someone who needed to be wrapped in cotton wool.

Can Michael discover more about his past and find love with Alex?

My View

We first meet Michael in book 5 of the Ellery Mountain series, The Paramedic and the Writer.  Actually, that is not quite true.  We see him throughout the series, but we really notice him in book 5.  Going by the name of Mikey at the time, he is the victim of a brutal hate-crime motivated beating and is saved by hot paramedic Jamie.  At the end of book 6, The Barman and the SEAL, he goes off into the world to make something of himself.  Originally that is how the series would have ended, but Mikey begged to have his story told.

The Agent and the Model picks up about 6 years after the end of Book 6 and serves 2 purposes.  It gives us Mikey’s happily ever after, but also gives us a peek in to the lives of the couples that have come before in books 1-6.  So it is part story and part thank you to the readers who have stuck through the entire series.  I don’t want to give away what happens, but a lot has changed in the lives of our favorite couples and I loved that little glimpse.

Ellery is a small town in the mountains of Tennesee, that just happens to be a mecca for hot gay men.  Can I move there?  Please?  Oh it is fictional, okay I will just read about it.  Each novella in the series focuses on a different couple and each couple faces their own issues.  For Michael and Alex, the issues stem from that brutal attack.  All Alex wants to do it protect Michael, but that desire to protect backfires.  All Michael wants is Alex to see him as a man capable of standing up for himself.  It takes them both stepping away to find their way back to each other.

I don’t really know why this is my favorite of the series.  Maybe because we sympathized with Mikey from earlier in the series.  Maybe it is because we were there for the initial horrors in his life.  Maybe it was just the chemistry between Michael and Alex.  I can’t really put my finger on it.  Just read it 😉  Start with book 1, The Fireman and the Cop, and you, too, will fall in love with the men of Ellery.

  1. So glad RJ added this 7th book to the series – I so wanted Mikey’s story. I can’t wait to see how everyone is doing – so sad this is the final one. 🙁
