I want to thank new M/M Author Leighton Rose for stopping by to talk about her debut release Back to You. It is a heart-wrenchingly fabulous story of doing what is best for the one you love. Our very own Shelby reviewed it here.
Thank you so much to Marc and Prism Book Alliance for inviting me to do a guest post on the blog! It’s my very first one and I hope I don’t screw it up!
I’ve been asked to tell you a little about myself as the author! I’m a thirty-year-old single mother to a six-year-old little boy who keeps me on my toes at all times! I’ve lived in the southeast corner of Nebraska for my entire life. I used to love to read but as I got older and my free time got shorter, I didn’t read as much then not at all for a few years (except for the Harry Potter books because well… HP doesn’t need an explanation!)
Then, while I was working with my best friend one day she was telling me all about this amazing vampire book series she was reading and insisted that I *had* to read it. I bought it and it ended up on my refrigerator for a month or so. On New Year’s Eve 2009, I was bored (I had a two year old at the time so I wasn’t out partying!) so I picked it up and started reading. I devoured all four books in six days and even drove an hour out of town to see Twilight the movie while it was still in a theater in Lincoln, NE. (I’ve since realized that there are tons of books that are so much better written than Twilight but it will always hold a special place in my heart!)
I discovered Twilight fan fiction after that and thought I could write it too, so I did. I’ve been writing ever since. I started out writing M/F fiction and quickly discovered the M/M genre, and it was like I found my place. I had an idea for a story, but it wasn’t Twilight characters I imagined in their places. I wrote it as Twilight anyway in order to get the feedback on it and I left it as a one-shot called Like There’s No Tomorrow, which eventually ended up as the prologue to my book with some editing.
I couldn’t let those characters go, and they just kept talking to me, so my other best friend encouraged me to sit down and write their story. She was about to self-publish her debut novel and has been instrumental in helping me get mine out! The whole process has been so surreal, and I’ve had the most supportive people backing me up both in my real life and in the M/M reading/writing community.
Back to You is the story that came from those boys! One of the straight, teenage boys I work with wanted to be the star in my book, and he didn’t care that his character was going to be in love with another boy. So Tyler’s character was born, and then Alex came about, and these boys graciously allowed me to be the one to tell their story.
Several other of the boys I work with ended up in my story too as supporting cast members—Andrew, Stephen, Big Man, Robbie and a couple of my good friends Donny and Robyn. I loved paying a sort of tribute to my friends and using them as character name inspiration.
Back to You is very angsty, and I’m told you need some tissues when you read it. I cried when I wrote certain scenes so I totally empathize with the readers! My biggest fear with people reading it is that they might misunderstand Alex and dislike him for leaving Tyler in the first place, but I hope that by the end of the book, I have redeemed him.
The book cover was designed by the fabulous Garrett Leigh under her cover artist name G.D. Leigh, and I highly recommend her to anyone looking for an eye catching cover! Check out the cover and blurb below!
Book One in the Second Chances Series by Leighton Rose
When two stubborn boys fall in love there are bound to be fights, but when those fights become the norm and there are more bad times than good, is love enough of a reason to stay?
Alex Parker thinks the best way to save himself and his boyfriend, Tyler Matthews, from any more pain is to leave him and his hometown behind. He finally settles down in Texas and as they both try to move on, it seems like a lost cause.
A tragic turn of events causes Alex to drop everything and head back to Nebraska where he winds up face-to-face with Tyler for the first time since he left two years ago. The spark of attraction is still there, but will these two now grown men be able to overcome the years of guilt, hurt, and broken trust without breaking the bonds of friendship they’ve formed during their time apart in order to get their second chance at love? Only time will tell if their hearts can find their way back to each other.
As a thank you to the wonderful readers out there, I’m giving away three copies of Back to You. Thank you so much for reading and I hope I didn’t bore you too much! And again, thank you to the wonderful folks at Prism Book Alliance for having me today! It was truly my pleasure!!
