Intriguing, divergent and somewhat cheeky interpretation of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

Ignatius is about to be seduced by a legend.
During a time where even the most educated of folk believe in ghosts, Ignatius Swain arrives in the quiet town of Ville sur le Fleuve to act as pedagogue to the adult daughter of Gregoire Delacroix. There, he encounters the enigmatic Jacques Bouchard, who appears to view him as a rival for Desiree Delacroix’s affection. Nothing could be more misconstrued. Even if Desiree’s gaze were not able to freeze water, Ignatius has set aside hopes of love hereabouts. He satisfies his desires with the ‘helping hand’ of ghostly fables, tales of terror that walk shivery traces and fiery passion up his spine…until one night when Jacques’ behaviour breeches barriers, and the pair encounter the most famous of resident spirits on the road.
Seduced by a Legend is a homoerotic interpretation of Ichabod Crane’s experiences in a sleepy little village called Ville sur le Fleuve. In this case we have Ignatius rather than Ichabod who is hired by Gregoire Delacroix to tutor his capricious daughter, Desiree. Truthfully, Desiree is a bit beyond tutoring and a giant pill. She vexes Ignatius at every turn.
Ignatius is not interested in her and he’s a little miffed that someone of his standing and intellect would be relegated to a shanty on the property. Nevertheless, he soldiers on like the good egg he is even after some odd quasi-paranormal, definitely erotic shenanigans during a storm. Ignatius writes the incident off as Desiree and Jacques having a bit of fun at his expense.
While attending a ball where Ignatius purposely goads Jacques into some sort of emotion he’s caught in an oddly erotic moment involving Jacques, a chicken leg and tales of a horseman at the crossroads on a white steed all of which blends together to turn Ignatius into putty. Of course the horseman appears on his white steed and what transpires was unexpectedly romantic as well as erotic.
The writing style is in keeping with the period, at times humorously flamboyant. Some of the sexy times turns of phrase left me gasping and speechless with my mouth agape.
“His other peeper dithered over opening, awakening with a rapidity of a fluttering butterfly wing.”
Overall I was entertained, but more so by Desiree’s manipulations than Ignatius and Jacques though I did giggle through the chicken leg scene. I’d say it’s worth it for that scene alone. So weird. This author definitely has a way with words; her descriptions are sensual. I’d be interested in seeing what she could do with a full length novel.
Seduced by a Legend is a nice way to spend an hour or so.
