His Lion Tamer by Caitlin Ricci ~ Review by Teresa

I love cats, big and small, and the fact this had a lion in it and was set in an animal sanctuary is what drew me to the book.

HisLionTamerLGTitle: His Lion Tamer

Author: Caitlin Ricci

Publisher: Dreamspinner Press

My Rating: 4 of 5 stars

From the Publisher:

Charlie thinks his Friday will be the same as any other working as an animator, until Quinn Fitzgerald and his rescued Asiatic Lion, Aseem, walk into the studio. While the lion is impressive, his handler is the real reason Charlie’s heart skips a beat.

Quinn has devoted years of his life to rescuing big cats, so he can’t turn down the donation the animation company is offering in exchange for using one of his cats as a model.

Charlie isn’t quite as confident as the handsome, charming man his sister teasingly calls Sex God Quinn Fitzgerald. He’s so nervous he can hardly talk to the other man, so he’s shocked when Quinn not only notices him but invites him to spend the weekend at his big cat sanctuary.

Note: This novella is derived from a combination of two novellas previously published by Silver Publishing: Taming the Lion Tamer and Lions in the Candlelight.

My View

His Lion Tamer is a sweet story set against the backdrop of a big cat sanctuary. There are no big dramas stretched out, no aching angst. Just two people getting to know each other and showing the love they have for each other. I loved the tone; it was an easy, light read with lots of hot encounters.

Charlie and Quinn’s relationship moves along fairly fast but there are no early declarations of love, which I appreciated. They seem to balance and complement each other well.

“Remember how easy it was for us our first weekend? We seemed to fit. We worked. I’ve never had that with anyone else.”

Sometimes I felt everything was a little too easy for them, all their problems smoothed over, but, in some ways it was more true to life. They talked about their problems and didn’t let them fester for dramatic tension.

In the end, the overall feel made for a perfect palate cleanser and comfort read.
