Title: It’s Complicated

From the Publisher:
After their umpteenth breakup, Brad Sweeney and Jeff Hayden are living apart and starting over from scratch. The morning after a promising first date, they’re more optimistic than ever that they can make it work this time . . . until Jeff’s ex-wife and business partner calls to announce she’s pregnant with Jeff’s baby. Brad’s already competing with a demanding business for Jeff’s time. Now there’s a baby on the way, and worse, he’s afraid Jeff is still carrying a torch for the woman who’s carrying his child.
Jeff is desperately trying to keep his life together, but before he can even get his head around the news that he’s going to be a father, his ex announces that she wants to leave Tucker Springs. Now he either has to take over her role at the shop while ferrying the baby back and forth from Denver, or move the business—and himself—with her.
Brad and Jeff knew reconciliation wouldn’t be easy, but they’re rapidly running out of room for compromise. And sooner or later, something has to give.
Well this one was a complicated one as the title very obviously points out. I personally didn’t like Jeff until I hit about 80% but I have to say he redeemed himself a little at the end.
Jeff and Brad have been a couple for years but their on again off again relationship has hit a critical point. Brad has moved out of their home and they are going to try one more time to see if they can salvage things.
After a promising ‘first date’ they end up spending the night together and for the first time in a long time both of them are feeling hopeful the next morning. When Jeff receives a phone call from his ex-wife and business partner telling him she is pregnant and that he is the father that quickly goes to shit!
In a nutshell, whilst Jeff and Brad were on a ‘break’ things got stressful one night at work for Jeff and his ex-wife and suddenly they are having sex in the office and the result of that is a pregnancy. Is this cheating when Jeff and Brad are not together at the time?
This is a book that had me all over the place. It is very clear that Jeff loves Brad but he doesn’t ever seem able to take that one final step and make him the most important part of his life. He also loves his ex-wife although is no longer in love with her. Then there is the business that is consuming all his time and energy.
Brad in my opinion is a saint! He not only puts up with all the hours that Jeff works but also the knowledge that Jeff works with his ex day in day out. He is dogged in his mind about their feelings for each other and now there is a baby added into the mix. He offers Jeff support when perhaps he should just be walking away and protecting himself.
The ex is going to leave Tucker Springs with the baby and move back to her family. The business can either be re-located or sold. It is only when Brad finally takes control of the situation that Jeff realises what is important and what is on the line. If he stands any chance at getting what he finally realises he needs more than life itself he will have to change his priorities and hope he is not too late.
I would like to thank Riptide for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
