Love doesn’t come with a syllabus.
Kelly Davidson has waited what seems like forever to graduate high school and get out of his small-minded, small town. But when he arrives at Hope University, he quickly realizes finding his Prince Charming isn’t so easy. Everyone here is already out. In fact, Kelly could be the only virgin on campus.
Worst of all, he’s landed the charming, handsome, gay campus Casanova as a roommate, whose bed might as well be equipped with a revolving door.
Walter Lucas doesn’t believe in storybook love. Everyone is better off having as much fun as possible with as many people as possible…except his shy, sad little sack of a roommate is seriously screwing up his world view.
As Walter sets out to lure Kelly out of his shell, staying just friends is harder than he anticipated. He discovers love is a crash course in determination. To make the grade, he’ll have to finally show up for class…and overcome his own private fear that love was never meant to last.
Warning: This story contains lingering glances, milder than usual sexual content for this author, and a steamy dance-floor kiss. Story has no dairy or egg content, but may contain almonds.
The story is centered around a college that is renowned for its diversity which is just as well as Kelly Davidson wants to come out and embrace being a gay man. Kelly has problems though – he is highly allergenic, suffers from asthma, is painfully shy and believes firmly that his prince charming will find him and sweep him off his feet. He is a total Disney film geek and he wants his happy ending.
Walter Lucas is the campus Casanova with more issues than the student magazine. His parents have divorced, his mother is having a breakdown and makes him feel guilty for not being at home and everyone he ever gets close to leaves him. His answer is simple…don’t get emotionally involved with people.
When he ends up rooming with Kelly he is at once enamored by the shy, naive and very good looking freshman and they quickly become friends. Walter has always taken on the role of caregiver and he slips into this role easily with Lucas, especially after he has an allergic reaction whilst out one evening that lands him in the ER.
This is a gentle and slow story but that builds with sizzling sexual tension. After a few near misses when Kelly is drunk they finally kiss and boy its intense! Kelly is determined that Walter is it for him but Walter is skittish and terrified that he will mess things up.
As Walter slowly opens up and begins to share his problems at home and trust Lucas to be there for him there is a subtle switch of roles between the pair and for the first time in his life Walter trusts someone to be there for him.
Loved the epilogue…it showed that even though things may not turn out exactly how you planned you can still get your HEA.
