Subject 13 by Ethan Stone ~ Review by Brandilyn with Giveaway!

I never read the first version of this story, so I can’t compare what is different in this edition.  I can however tell you that I thoroughly enjoyed this edition, which has been heavily re-edited and expanded from the original.

Subject13Title: Subject 13

Author: Ethan Stone

My Rating: 4.5 of 5 stars

From the Publisher:

Luke Kincaid’s life is exploding all around him. First his lover leaves him to marry a woman, then childhood nightmares return with a vengeance.

He finds comfort in his renewed friendship with high school buddy Ben Skinner. Luke works on rebuilding his life but repressed memories threaten everything. Luke and Ben investigate his past while Luke fights his attraction to Ben, who he believes is straight.

But someone doesn’t want them to discover the truth and Luke’s life is in jeopardy. Luke can’t stop his search—not even when he finds out it is connected to a government cover up. Luke and Ben must uncover the secrets of Luke’s past as well as deal with their true feelings for each other.

Second Edition: This book has been extensively re-edited with several changes to the plot.

My View

Luke has not had the best of lives. He was found alone in a field at a young age. His adoptive parents have died, and his long-time lover leaves him in order to marry a woman. What else can go wrong? Well, he can fall for his straight childhood friend and current roommate… Oh and he can have these repressed memories haunt him and people wanting him dead. Yep, Luke is not in the best of places.

This book is about more than just a friends-to-lovers second chance love story. It is, also, about more than just the classic “man on the run” scenario, (there is your daily earworm). You get to watch genuine affection develop into more. You get to watch two men who are perfect for each other work together to fight the unseen and an unknown evil… even when said evil might just be closer than they think.

The moral of the story is about being careful whom you trust and don’t take what you see at face value. The characters are well developed, and the manuscript is clean and tight. I was genuinely interested in what would happen next from the first chapter until the very end. Oh and don’t forget the little cliff-hanger the author leaves us with… So, when is book two out, Mr. Stone??

  1. This sounds like the type of book I used to read all the time. Government conspiracies were my thing for awhile, I’m looking forward to reading Ethan’s take on this.

  2. This sounds like a very interesting story. I like a little love with intrigue. I confess I haven’t read anything by Ethan Stone – but I’m always looking for new authors to love 🙂

  3. I’ve had the original version on my tbr for a really long time. I didn’t read it because of some not so good reviews. But I’m looking forward to reading this new version. Thanks for the giveaway.
