From the Publisher:
Matt Sullivan understands labels: law student, athlete, heterosexual. He has goals: graduate and begin his career in law. One fateful night, Matt tags along with his gay roommate to a dance club and everything changes. Matt finds himself attracted to the most beautiful man he’s ever seen. All labels go flying out the window.
Aaron Mendez doesn’t believe in labels, and he’s leery of straight curious men. He makes it clear that he’ll hide his fabulous light for no one. While Aaron can’t deny the attraction between him and Matt, he is reluctant to start anything with someone who is still dealing with what this new label means—especially when that someone has a girlfriend.
This is a feel good story with a little bit of angst and a whole lot of loving. A lot of people seemed to have this as GFY but I don’t agree. Matt had already had a sexual experience with another man, admitted to being attracted to men and had no problem admitting his bisexuality to himself.
Matt is a student dealing with the usual stresses of studying and trying to ace his grades. He has a girlfriend who he sees every now and again, sex isn’t great but he doesn’t expect it to be, and he surrounds himself with a good group of friends.
Aaron. I loved Aaron. Flamboyant and so secure in who he was, he was an absolute pleasure. He loves loud music, fashion and dancing and will not hide himself for anyone. I would have loved to have gotten a little more of his POV in the story, as for me he was the star.
When the pair meet in a gay bar one night the sparks fly and the attraction is instant. Matt wants to learn more about the beautiful and graceful man but Aaron has past experience with men in the closet and won’t change or hide for another man ever again. When the two agree to be friends and start spending more and more time together it becomes clear there is more to it than the initial feelings of lust.
Aaron is refreshing and brings a light to Matts life that he hadn’t thought possible but there is also a vulnerable side to him that fears the hurt a relationship with Matt may bring. Matt may have ended his relationship with his girlfriend but will he ever be ready to admit his feelings for Aaron and live with him out, proud and loud.
Matt has a lot to prove to himself, his friends but most importantly Aaron. If he can find the courage it may well be Better Than Good!
Only my second book by this narrator, Tyler Stevens, but I love his voice. He makes the book very realistic and the voices he gave the characters were just as I would have imagined them.
