Full disclosure, I was part of the Facebook conversation that sparked this sweet tale. So, of course, I had to read the end result. It was one cold and soon to be stormy day during the epic winter the north suffered this year. We were talking about grocery shopping in advance of the storm, and Allison came up with french toast emergencies to describe everyone’s frantic need for milk, eggs, and bread. As a Texas girl who grew up in hurricane country, we stock up on water, but hey in the north they just have to have their French Toast (though, I like to add a little sugar and spice to mine…)

From the Publisher:
Arthur Cain has removed himself from a social life littered with mistakes and unhappiness. When a freak April snowstorm hits, he just wants to stock up on the basics so he can get back to writing his thesis. Samuel Richards is a musician with a wicked sense of humor and he knows how to use it. The last thing he expected was to have it save him when he heads out for supplies and everything falls apart. The storm sends both to the grocery store, but neither had a “date” on their shopping list.
It’s one disaster after another for Samuel, but the history student comes to his rescue. If only Arthur was as good dealing with live men as he was with dead Vikings.
I love seeing a well written, tight, and clean self-published story. So often these days, I find self-published to lack the quality I seek when I am paying for a story. I was very pleased to see Vaughn, however, stays far away from that trap.
Samuel is having a bad, bad day. The one highlight, however, is meeting Arthur at the grocery store while they both reach for the last loaf of bread. Definition of “meet-cute” right there. Always the start of an interesting story, in my experience. French Toast Emergencies is no different. For poor Samuel, it is one problem after another, eventually leading to him spending a snowy day stuck in an apartment with Arthur.
The premise is a bit wild. Seriously, how many people are going to take a stranger home right after meeting them? (Actually, as I think about it, probably more than I want to think.) But hey, this is fiction and it made for an adorable little romp and a great way to unwind after a heavier read. If you are looking for a sweet, quick love story, pick this one up.
I would like to thank Brigham Vaughn for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
