What happens when you find your mate living among a rival pack? This can be a very bad situation, especially if it turns out that rival pack is filled with evil and sadistic wolves. I am always entertained by stories when heroes need to be rescued. I know, some of you out there think, “Ugh!” Sorry, but I get a bit of guilty pleasure when a big, strong guy needs saving.

From the Publisher:
Caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, Tristan Howe is abducted and imprisoned by a pack at war with his own. His future looks bleak until he finds an unexpected ally in enemy pack member, Colby Williams. A fragile bond develops between them as they escape together.
Once he’s safely back with his own pack, Tristan finds his feelings for Colby are more than just gratitude for being rescued. He’s delighted to learn that they’re reciprocated, and even more excited to realize he and Colby are mates.
But idealistic Tristan finally has to face up to the fact that even true love might not be enough to defeat the forces ranged against them—not least his pack-mates’ suspicion and hostility toward Colby, and a mate so scarred by his abusive past that he doesn’t know how to be free. All Tristan can do is try.
This is the third installment of the “Strength of the Pack” series. I feel strongly that you need to read the first two books in order to fully enjoy the dynamics of this one. Joy Lynn Fielding has done a good job of creating an interesting world where shifters live openly among humans. There are a few important details about this pack and their members that carry on through the series. Understanding this and knowing who all the players are is very helpful.
There has been a feud with a another pack and evil alpha that has been brewing since book one. In this story one of our boys gets abducted by the nasty rivals and some very bad things happen. (Warning: there is some non-con here among the nasty, evil pack members.) But wait! Then some good things happen so it is all worthwhile for our heroes.
My take on this book is that if you have been reading this series then you should continue. It’s a dark world at times but there are some shining moments, and I find the way the author has made each story have a unique twist to be refreshing. The characters all have rather unusual relationships, and unlike some similar stories they are not all great big burly men with little, helpless twinks. I think she has worked to create characters that have different backgrounds and unusual chemistry. Although some of the storyline is rather predictable for this sort of shifter tale it still gets mixed up enough to keep things intriguing, and I am looking forward to see where the series is headed next.
I would like to thank Siren Publishing for providing me with the eRC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
