My Rating: 4.75 of 5 stars

From the Publisher:

In spite of all the bad memories and fears, Jordan had dutifully returned home to Mt. Desert Island, Maine to look after his ailing mother. Now, financially devastated by her care and emotionally exhausted by her death, Jordan tries to pick up the pieces of his life and rebuild his floundering career as an illustrator. While working on a new commission, he finds a man unconscious at the local lighthouse. When the man regains consciousness, he has no memory.

The only clue to his identity is a limited edition hardcover copy of Storm’s Eye, a mystery novel by Jordan’s favorite author and client. Inside is a scrawled dedication, ‘To Zane’. What is this man’s story? And why, since meeting him, has Jordan’s life strangely paralleled the plot of the book that he carried? Will Jordan weather the harrowing trials of ‘Storm’s Eye’? Or will he become a casualty of the mysterious stranger to whom he opened his heart?

My View

When regularly reviewing books, you never know just exactly what to expect – especially when reading an author’s work for the first time. Occasionally you discover a story that is unexpectedly wonderful. This is exactly how I feel about Dean Gray’s Storm’s Eye. This is a lovely romance taking place within an intriguing mystery. I honestly had forgotten how much I enjoy a good mystery until reading Storm’s Eye. I was so enthralled with this story, that I literally could hardly put it down (I ate lunch in my office so I could finish the book – I just couldn’t wait until I was back home to know how the story ends!).

Jordan is an amazing character – he’s returned to his isolated island home to care for his sick mother who recently passed – and he’s emotionally fragile and lonely. However, it’s Zane that captures my heart. He’s physically broken and emotionally raw when Jordan discovers him injured in an old light house, but despite his memory loss and knowing that he’s been the recent victim of extreme physical and sexual assault, he’s willing to trust his heart to Jordan. Zane is so dear and sweet – it’s almost physically painful to read when Jordan is convinced by a well meaning friend that Zane may be behind recent attempts on Jordan’s life. Zane’s pain at Jordan’s rejection is visceral and raw. And even when the mystery behind both Zane’s history and assault, as well as the source of the danger surrounding Jordan, is solved, it is Zane who is freely forgives Jordan and wants to take a chance on building a happy relationship together.

It is the chemistry between a couple that makes or breaks a romance, and the chemistry between Zane and Jordan is simply perfect. They are both damaged, hurt, and vulnerable. But they’re also both willing to grasp their chance at love and happiness. Zane and Jordan together are an amazing couple who choose hope and love rather than become mired in bitterness.

I highly, highly recommend this thrilling, sexy, loving, and hopeful book! My only warning is when you start reading Storm’s Eye, make sure you have time enough to finish it … because you simply will not want to put it down!
