I’m a star procrastinator. I’ve been procrastinating on writing this final blog post for about two weeks now, all because I couldn’t come up with anything interesting to say. I ended up spending a stupid amount of time online, and it occurred to me…
Maybe I’ll share my five favorite sites for online procrastination. So, with my apologies to Prism Book Alliance for giving them what might be the most ridiculous guest post every, I’ll dive right in.
5. Tumblr: I’m listing this at number five not because it’s less entertaining than the others, but because everybody should already know about it. If Tumblr isn’t one of your top procrastination sites, you’re doing it wrong. Period. I hear that the teenagers use Tumblr the way we all used to use MySpace, but for most of us adults, it’s all about porn (and the occasional kitten gif). You can check out my Tumblr here: http://mariesexton.tumblr.com. (It’s cleaner than some, but still not entirely safe for work.)
4. DigitalBlasphemy.com: This is a site full of digital wallpaper, and some of them are absolutely amazing. It has images specifically designed for just about anything (including double and triple screens). You get more if you’re willing to buy a membership, but there are plenty of free images as well. There’s even a gallery of free Facebook covers here: http://digitalblasphemy.com/fbt/fbt1.shtml
3. Fictiongen.inky.me: This site gives random story prompts. They’re mostly absurd, but that’s what makes them fun. I especially love the endings. My favorites are, “culminating in authorial preaching through the mouths of the characters,” and “culminating in convoluted nonsense that squanders the readers’ goodwill.”
2. Mynoise.net: My husband introduced me to this site. It’s full of “custom-shaped online noise machines.” Basically, it’s all kinds of white noise. Everything from nature noises to drones designed for mediation, and every one of them can be customized. It’s great for writing, or just for zoning out. Some of the sounds even allow you to calibrate your own hearing curve.
And now, my number one site for online procrastination.
Did I mention that I’m the queen of procrastination? I think I hear some ice cream calling my name. I’ll get back to you with my number one site later. Maybe. 😉
So, tell me: What are your favorite sites for online procrastination?
Davlova: a poverty-ridden city-state ruled by a tyrannical upper class. Resources are scarce and technology is illegal. But in the slums, revolution is brewing.
Misha is a common pickpocket until his boss gives him a new job. Disguised as a whore, Misha is sent to work for one of the most powerful men in the city. But his real task is far more dangerous: get close to Miguel Donato, and find something – anything – that will help topple Davlova’s corrupt government.
Misha is plunged into the decadent world of the upper class, where slaves are common and even the most perverse pleasure can be found. Although he’s sure Davlova’s elite is involved in something horrific, proof is hard to come by, and Misha begins to fall in love with the man he’s supposed to betray. Then Misha meets Ayo – a sex slave forced by the neural implant in his brain to take pleasure from pain – and everything changes. As the lower class pushes toward a bloody revolution, Misha will find himself caught between his surprising feelings for Donato, his obligations to his clan, and his determination to save Ayo.
Warning: This book contains graphic descriptions of violent sexual acts of questionable consent that may be disturbing to some readers.
