Carey English spends his days planning extravagant parties and lavish weddings and generally making people’s lives brighter. He spends his nights wishing for a man he doesn’t have to share and who won’t try to drag him back into the closet. It doesn’t help that the man he wants most doesn’t need a closet to begin with — his straight best friend, Sky. Skyler Wood has been dumped — again — just days before the holiday season, leaving him with an ex-fiancée, a nonrefundable New Year’s Eve getaway rental, and nothing to ring in the New Year but a broken heart. For Carey, rushing off to offer Sky a shoulder will either be the best decision he’s ever made—or it will lead to the worst heartbreak he’s ever experienced.

A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2014 Daily Dose package “Mended”.

My View:

Best Worst Ever is a fun and heartwarming friends to lovers story. Carey and Sky have been friends for years. Carey has always worked to keep a lid on his less than friend-like feelings for straight Sky since he doesn’t want to do anything that ruin their close friendship. Sky has never had a relationship with a woman last, and he’s now stuck with a non-refundable romantic mountain cabin for New Year’s Eve. Sympathetic Carey agrees to go with Sky and celebrate the New Year with him at the cabin. The electricity goes off, and soon Carey and Sky’s very real feelings about each other become evident.

The story in Best Worst Ever is a bit formulaic, but it is also delightful! Carey shines as the out and proud gay friend who adores Sky as both a best friend and a man. Sky is priceless as a man who is finally figuring out why his past relationships with women haven’t worked out. The characters also have a warm and sensual chemistry together that is just yummy. I encourage you to read this great story and discover how Carey and Sky find their happy ending together.
