Declan, the new alpha of the pack, is burning with desire as dominant meets submissive in this explosive romance. A dark past and danger waiting around the next corner. Only fate knows if their love is strong enough to overcome the perils waiting for them.

Declan’s chance to be the alpha of his pack has finally come, but in order to take over he needs to find a mate. Finding the gorgeous and fragile Quinn living in his parents’ home, his body heats for no other.

Quinn is a submissive male wolf who has spent most of his life abused by his former alpha. But being mated to his new pack’s alpha provides him with a level of safety he’s never known before, and a whole new world of passion and lust.

Just as their love begins to blossom, a wolf from Quinn’s past threatens the happiness he’s found in Declan’s arms.

My View:

In Called to Mate, Ms. Tyler portrayed one of the cutest relationships I have read about in quite a while. It started out with an instant attraction but soon became a full-fledged mating. The two men were affectionate with each other and tender together. They each spent their time trying to ensure the other’s happiness and trying build-up each other’s self-esteem. They were so proud of each other and proud to be with each other. I loved it! But all was not perfect. There were issues as both men adjusted to the life of alpha and his mate. Secrets and miscommunications lead to misunderstandings and hurt feelings. But overall, it was a wonderful relationship and I look forward to seeing more from these two men.

I do have to qualify that I felt that Declan’s initial behavior toward Quinn was rather forward and a bit awkward to read. Sexual acts and nicknames were initiated far too early for my tastes and it made things a little weird for me at first.

I liked the little bits of character development that was included in this tale. Declan changed from the promiscuous, son of an Alpha to a happily mated, monogamous, and confident pack leader.  Quinn, on the other hand, grew so much more. He suffered so much at the hands of his previous alpha and I loved watching him come out of his shell and gain confidence in himself. Quinn recovered from the worst in life and emerged stronger than ever. I love a good underdog who rises above! I felt so much for him that I wanted to keep reading to make sure he finally got to be happy.

Called to Mate by Lynn Tyler is the first book in the Pack Mates series. This book began developing the universe and establishing pack structure, dynamics, and behaviors. Lynn Tyler introduced the fundamentals for this series very well. But who will be next? Besides an already established couple and Trina, there were few pack members introduced so I have no idea who will star in the next book. So while I am interested in the next installment, I am not as eager as I would be if I was waiting for a specific character to get his HEA.
