Blurb:

Ten years ago David Worral had plans to go to college and the potential for a beautiful future in front of him. One tragic accident later, he fled to California and reinvented himself as Dex, top porn model of Johnnies.

Dex’s life is a tangled mess now, but the guys he works with only see the man who makes them believe even porn stars can lead normal lives. When Kane, one of Dex’s coworkers, gets kicked out of his house, the least Dex can do is give him a place to stay. Kane may be a hyperactive muscle-bound psycho, but he’s also a really nice guy. What could be the harm?

Except nothing is simple – not sex, not love, and not the goofy kid with the big dick and bigger heart who moves his life into Dex’s guest room. When they start negotiating fractured pasts and broken friends, Dex wonders if Kane’s honest nature can untangle the sadness that stalled his once – promising future. With Kane by his side, Dex just might be able to reclaim the boy he once was – and if he can do that, he can give Kane the home and the family he deserves.

My View – Story:

Unquestionably, Amy Lane’s Dex in Blue is one of my favorite M/M romances. I am in love with the Johnnie’s series as a whole, but with his sincere decency and nurturing spirit, wounded Dex is the heart of the series. A young man who lost his first love just as they finally found each other, he silently grieves alone and then leaves his Wyoming roots for California and a new life.

If the world of Johnnies is compared to the solar system, Dex is surely the sun that everyone else revolves around. As the years pass, he basically runs the company, takes care of the models, and while doing so he creates his own family. One of the things that makes Dex so incredibly special is that he genuinely cares for the people he works with – he wants to help make their lives better, both while they are models and afterward.

Dex’s relationship with Kane catches both men by surprise. They’ve known each other – even had scenes together – and remain nothing more than good friends. This changes when Dex and Kane are devastated by Chase’s attempted suicide, and for the first time vulnerable Dex allows someone to take care of him. With Kane’s whispered promise in the dark to take care of Dex, a truly remarkable relationship is born.

Dex and Kane are just perfect together. Their sexual chemistry is both loving and melt your Kindle hot, and the two complement each other while they negotiate family drama, dealing with a vicious man from Dex’s past, and planning for their future. Guileless Kane is such an endearing character – his sincerity and genuine love for Dex (and his little niece) is amazing. Perhaps my favorite scene is when Kane figures out that he’s about to lose Dex after Kane absentmindedly flirts with a girl, he quickly decides that anything that causes him and Dex to not sleep in the same bed is bad, and that he doesn’t care what label is attached to his sexuality as long as he can be with Dex. The raw emotion of both men in this scene is remarkable and indicative of the quality of this story as a whole

If you are a lover of M/M romance, I cannot recommend highly enough that, you must read and listen to Amy Lane’s Johnnies series – especially Dex in Blue. You will surely get your heart repeatedly broken, but you will also fall oh-so-wonderfully in love.

My View – Narration:

Sean Crisden’s narration of Dex in Blue is flawless. Crisden’s voice characterizations of Dex and Kane captures their personalities, as well as their inner vulnerabilities. The narration of the story itself allows the listener to transcend reality and easily visualize the story’s action. The mark of a wonderful narrator is when the listener forgets that someone is reading a story, and to become immersed within the story itself. Sean Crisden is this type of narrator, and listening to his narration of Dex in Blue makes this fabulous story even better.
