Raised to become Alpha of the Yafenack pack, Samuel Goodwin dedicates his life to studying shifter laws, strengthening his body, and learning from his father. Taking control comes easily to Samuel, but relating to people, including those he’s supposed to lead, is a constant challenge.

When Samuel meets Korban Keller, the son of a neighboring pack’s Alpha, he reacts with emotion instead of intellect for the first time in his life. Resenting the other shifter for putting him off-balance, Samuel first tries to intimidate Korban and then tries to avoid him. What he can’t do is forget Korban’s warm eyes, easy smile, and happy personality.

When a battle between their fathers results in tragedy, Samuel and Korban are thrown together. With his world crashing down around him, Samuel must save his pack and show them he can lead. But first, Korban needs to save Samuel by inspiring him to feel. Two very different men with a tumultuous history must overcome challenges from all sides and see past the rules they’ve been taught to realize they are destined to fit together.

My View:

Two neighbouring wolf packs.

Two very different alphas grooming their sons for the future.

Two very different alpha sons, that will discover they have each other in common.

Samuel Goodwin has spent his life studying. He pores over the old writings of the wolf packs to ensure when the time comes he will be the best alpha he possibly can. His parents, his father in particular, has encouraged him and has always been proud but has also tried to instil the need for compassion and feeling. Samuel knows he is unlike the rest of the pack, he shies away from touch and comfort, he finds it increasingly difficult to talk to people, his answer is to study even harder.

Korban will also be alpha one day. He doesn’t know the old ways like Samuel but he is compassionate, has a smile for everybody he meets and takes the time to listen and understand. Hs father is a hard man who resists help and doesn’t want to hand over power to his son. Korban has tried to befriend Samuel over the years with little success.

When Korbans father challenges Samuels for power it ends in tragedy. With his ongoing battle with his wolf Samuel feels he has failed his father and his pack and runs into the forest. A calming voice brings him back to the fighting ring to discover the harsh reality of deceit.

The following days after the fight see Samuel nearly losing his mind. His call for a tribute doesn’t go as planned and he ends up with Korban locked in his shed fearing for his life. His control over his pack is fragile; his control over his wolf is hanging by a thread. The only thing keeping him even remotely steady is the calming voice he hears inside his head.

When Samuel realises the truth of the situation he may find the parts of him that have always been missing. He is ashamed to discover what he knew in his heart all along but had been denying but is delighted at the same time to finally feel whole. He will need both parts of himself if he is to settle his pack and save Korbans pack from the danger of a deranged Alpha.
