Kink Club Blues by Eva Lefoy ~ Book Review by Beverley

Kink Club Blues Title: Kink Club Blues

Blurb:

Brian finds out the hard way that once a top, always a top, doesn’t apply to him.

Paul and Geoffrey return from their special trip to Paris. Paul plans to propose to Geoffrey but first, his urge to protect his lover drives him to close an old loophole. He visits Brian, demanding the original video he made of Geoffrey be destroyed.

Brian doesn’t understand what Paul’s upset about, or his dominant streak. But the clearer Paul’s feelings for Geoffrey become to him, the more Brian desires to have a man love him the same way. Curiosity draws him to the local kink club, and into the arms of a man whose punishment gives him all he secretly craves.

My View:

The tags for this short story were BDSM, Contemporary, Erotica and I supposed it matched its brief. This was not a good short story, the characters were unendearing and unbelievable. The main theme was supposed to be that one wasn’t weak or wimpy because one was a bottom or a sub. However, the characters portraying these ‘positions’, namely ‘Geoffrey’ and ‘Brian’ were both weak and wimpy.

However, my main reason for rating this story so low was that it painted BDSM in a very bad light. This I abhore, as the community is one which prides itself on being ‘sane, safe and consensual’, and campaigns for a better image tirelessly. The character Brian has never experienced BDSM, has never been to such a club, never met a real Dom and has never been penetrated anally, and yet after wanking over some BDSM sub porn he decides he wants it all and needs to be punished. He then visits a club for the first time, a huge man renders him unconscious with a ‘Vulcan Death Grip’ and attaches restraints on his wrists and ankles in a private dungeon, whilst he is still unconscious. On waking he is told he is going to be punished and is presented with,

The thickest, longest dong Brian had ever seen

The majority of the conversation is,

Have you ever been fucked by a man before?…He’d never been so confused, so afraid…No…Then I’m going to take you like the virgin you are.

I’ve no idea what he meant exactly by this but he claps his hands and is given lube and a condom. This Dom ‘Gar’ proceeds to almost joke about how much this is going to hurt Brian and then penetrates him in one thrust. Brian twists his body in

‘a frantic attempt to break free.’

He then says ‘Oh My God’ and his wonderful (sarcasm) Dom replies,

See, I told you. You thought you were Mr Tough Top, but you were wrong weren’t you?

Now, along with what happens next, I would say that this is abuse not BDSM after being told

Please Oh God,…Brian pulled against the restraints…he desperately wanted out of there, wanted Gar’s giant cock out of his ass. Please let go, I can’t do this…

Gar kisses him three times and it’s all ok. I’m sorry it is not. Just because someone eventually,

roared into his first submissive release

it does not make this right. Safewords are never mentioned let alone used and Brian goes away happy because he is told to be there each Thursday night to ‘service’ Gar.

I found the story naive and the plot pointless, and I found the presentation of BDSM insulting.

  1. I have recently started reading BDSM books and have found that it hard to find one to my taste. I was a little shocked by the scene with Brian and Gar in the private dungeon myself. I think some readers prefer the more dubious side than others. I appreciate your careful review.

As a newbie to the genre can you suggest some authors I should check out who write BDSM more on the light and fluffy side?
