A sweet story of two men who unexpectedly find love … But will their new love survive?  And I just adore the lovely cover – so romantic!

Having come out late in life, forty-three-year-old Luke Jordan is at a loss about how to conduct himself as a gay man. As a construction manager, he’s not interested in being out at work, but he’d like to find a boyfriend or at least some gay friends. Two years after his wife got all their friends in the divorce, he’s no closer to the life he wants.

Zach, Luke’s adult son, takes charge and signs him up for the Rainbow Blues, a social group for gay blue-collar workers. At an event, he not only finds friends but meets Jimmy Alexander, part-time stage actor and full-time high school biology teacher. Jimmy loves the stage but wishes potential boyfriends weren’t so jealous of the time he devotes to it. When he meets Luke and finds him accepting of his many facets, he thinks it’s a dream come true.

Their relationship quickly moves into serious territory, but their connection is tested to its breaking point by the offer of a juicy movie role that takes Jimmy to the opposite coast and into the path of a very sexy costar.

My View:

Luke is one those characters who almost immediately grabs your heart. He’s 43 and only recently divorced and came out. He’s a hunky, manly guy who works a blue collar job as a building contractor. He’s a hardworking, decent man, who loves his son, is pleased his nice ex-wife has a happy new marriage, and who is desperately lonely. Fortunately, through a friend he made at gay social club Rainbow Blues, Luke meets Jimmy, a high school teacher who also performs in local theater.

Luke and Jimmy’s visceral chemistry and attraction is instant and almost magical. They are simply drawn to each other, and almost immediately begin a passionate and committed relationship. Their instant attraction is somehow romantic and believable. I just adore Luke – he loves Jimmy so much, and even though he knows how much he will desperately miss him while he’s away in California, Luke is happy for Jimmy when he is given an unexpected opportunity to star in a movie. I also like Jimmy, and his love of Luke is genuine, but I feel he is remarkably selfish when he is in California making the movie, and in so doing he lets both Luke and the reader down. He’s in California three months, and manages to call Luke just three times (he claims he is so very busy, and the time zones cause them to not have coordinating schedules…). Yea … I don’t buy it either, but apparently Jimmy really feels this is an OK way to treat the man you love (who is at home building your dream home, no less …). Jimmy then seems shell shocked when he suddenly decides to leave the California movie world behind and return to Luke, and finds a brokenhearted Luke who already feels their relationship must end since Luke is convinced he has no place in Jimmy’s exciting new movie star life.

Fortunately Luke has a forgiving heart, and Jimmy’s true love of Luke shines through for the two men to find their much deserved happily ever after. And even I forgive Jimmy for getting caught up in the work and excitement of movie making, and unintentionally hurting Luke.  I suspect you will, as well, when you read the touching reunion scene between the two men.  I recommend this romantic and delightful story – The characters are unforgettable, and the story is filled with relationship angst that will surely tug at your heart.
