A Book in the Family Series

When 22-year-old Emilio Sanchez sees handsome Spencer Derdinger walking by his construction site, Emilio makes it his goal to seduce the shy professor. Getting Spencer into bed isn’t difficult, but Emilio soon learns that earning the trust of a man deeply hurt will take time and patience. With a prize like brilliant, sweet Spencer on the line, Emilio decides he is strong enough to face the challenge.

Spencer is surprised when he’s approached by the gorgeous construction worker he’s admired from the safety of his office window. Acting spontaneously for the first time in his 38 years, Spencer takes Emilio home. When the casual hookup turns into the potential for love, Spencer realizes that if he wants to build a life with Emilio, he’ll need to be strong enough to slay his personal demons and learn to trust again.

My View

Story Review

I first read this on my kindle a few months ago and I think the second time round was even better for me. Emilio and Spencer throw convention to the wind in a lot of ways.

Spencer, the older man by 16 years, with so much more life experience is the one who is shy, unsure and really lacking confidence. His past experiences have left him a bit battered and bruised and with both emotional and physical problems that weigh down on him.

Emilio is a contradiction. He shows his exuberance and immaturity when his patience is tested and 2 weeks seems like forever, but then he completely throws you with the compassion and understanding he shows when he knows something is affecting or upsetting Spencer.

The two men have unknowingly been eyeing each other up for a couple of weeks before Emilio asks Spencer out. The utter disbelief that Spencer showed because a handsome man asked him out was heartbreaking and was a huge hurdle for Emilio to get past.

Do they fall in love and move in together a bit quickly? Of course they do, but it works. Although they get carried away the sexual side of their relationship moves in baby steps for various reasons and this was the clincher for me. I loved how Spencer gained confidence throughout the book, I loved watching him realise that Emilio wasn’t like other men who had trampled on him and that he could get his HEA. I loved that he learned to trust and that Emilio was there for him every step of the way.

Perfect for a first read or a re-read or a listen!

Narration Review

I pretty much listened to this in one go!  I even went on two 6 mile walks so I didn’t feel guilty about listening to it!  Aaron had the perfect voice for both story and characters and I hope to listen to him again very soon!
