Book Three in Rhys Ford’s fantabulous Sinner’s Gin series! Squee!!
Author: Rhys Ford
Publisher: Dreamspinner Press
My Rating: 5 of 5 stars
From the Publisher:
Lieutenant Connor Morgan of SFPD’s SWAT division wasn’t looking for love. Especially not in a man. His life plan didn’t include one Forest Ackerman, a brown-eyed, blond drummer who’s as sexy as he is trouble. His family depends on him to be like his father, a solid pillar of strength who’ll one day lead the Morgan clan.
No, Connor has everything worked out—a career in law enforcement, a nice house, and a family. Instead, he finds a murdered man while on a drug raid and loses his heart comforting the man’s adopted son. It wasn’t like he’d never thought about men — it’s just loving one doesn’t fit into his plans.
Forest Ackerman certainly doesn’t need to be lusting after a straight cop, even if Connor Morgan is everywhere he looks, especially after Frank’s death. He’s just talked himself out of lusting for the brawny cop when his coffee shop becomes a war zone and Connor Morgan steps in to save him.
Whoever killed his father seems intent on Forest joining him in the afterlife. As the killer moves closer to achieving his goal, Forest tangles with Connor Morgan and is left wondering what he’ll lose first—his life or his heart.
I just love Sinner’s Gin (seriously … it’s one of my all time favorite M/M books), and Whiskey and Wry is also amazing. When my expectations are raised as high as they are for Tequila Mockingbird, the third in Rhys Ford’s Sinner’s Gin series, it is with trepidation that I began to read the book. Within the first few pages, I knew that Tequila Mockingbird did not disappoint! Yay!! The exciting mystery story line of the growing danger surrounding Forest is heart pounding, and the chemistry and love between Connor and Forest is combustible and delicious. Be still my heart …
Connor is the oldest of the Morgan clan of children, and he’s always been the responsible, serious one. He’s also always been heterosexual. That goes up in smoke when police detective Connor tightly holds Forest for the first time when Forest’s adoptive father is murdered. Forest is the product of a drug addict prostitute who thought nothing of selling Forest when he was a boy, and he’s wary of Connor’s constant presence in his life (and at his coffee shop). Connor is determined to figure out who is trying to hurt Forest, and to protect the man he’s growing to love. Connor doesn’t fully understand why he can’t escape his attraction to Forest, but he knows the love he feels is real and that he can’t let him go. Forest is so damaged, Connor is protective, and they find in each other that which completes their soul.
Rhys Ford has a way of weaving a story that’s engrossing, sexy, and delicious. It is her command of the English language that sets her apart. She’s an artist, and the written word is her medium. Her writing is lyrical and poetic, and she creates artistic beauty. I can finish one of her books, and immediately re-read the book and discover yet more passages that grip my heart or take my breath.
I highly, highly recommend Tequila Mockingbird. If you’ve read the earlier in the Sinner’s Gin series, you cannot miss this loving, exciting, and fabulous story of Connor and Forest. Just be ready to be tired the day after you start Tequila Mockinbird, because you won’t be able to put this book down … I know that I read the book through in one sitting and was happily tired and cranky at work the next day! Now as I daydream about Connor and Forest, I ponder what wonder Rhys Ford has planned for us in this sinfully good series …
