Blurb:

When high school football jock Matt and his best friend, Demsey, begin having sexual relations, Matt thinks of himself as just another horny teenager, but when Demsey’s dad seduces him, he realizes he has the face, body, and endowment that can drive men crazy. During his first year of college, he tries to maintain a straight façade, but he is unable to sublimate his constant craving for gay sex, eventually succumbing to his roommate’s advances. After a tryst on the beach with a soccer player, the thought of becoming a porn star begins to crystallize, but it is only after he wins the Mr. Eight Plus competition that he immerses himself in the porn industry. After a successful career in the porn milieu, he accidentally runs into Demsey, and the love they’d shared as teenagers is reignited.

My View:

I have a true fondness for porn star stories (I suppose Amy Lane’s Johnnies series is to blame), and I excitedly began to read Well-Endowed, the story of how hunky jock Matt became a gay porn star. Unfortunately, I didn’t find the story I was hoping for. I probably classify Well-Endowed as erotica simply for its profuse sexual content; however, erotica by definition is a work that arouses sexual desire, and for me Well-Endowed doesn’t meet this standard.

Matt, the former high school jock who goes to college and then hops into gay porn, is the main character in the story, but there is surprisingly little actual character development. He’s the same selfish, egocentric guy throughout the story – he’s well-endowed with 11 inches of fun that he just loves sharing. And share he does … with his best friend, this same friend’s father, guys at college, fellow porn stars – you get the idea. There is absolutely nothing wrong about a story of a sexy young guy with a health sexual appetite, but there’s a sameness in the description of Matt’s sexual encounters that make his character feel “flat” and leave me disinterested. Matt has few redeeming characteristics, but when he inexplicably forces another porn actor to have painful unprotected sex just to make the scene “better” as he ignores the man’s pleas for him to stop, I completely lost any small bit of liking I may have had for the story at this moment.

Well-Endowed may be ideal for some, but I honestly struggled to finish the book. There are some odd word choices – calling condoms “safes” repeatedly comes to mind – that do not improve my opinion of the story, but it’s the main character Matt that seals my dissatisfaction with the story. He simply isn’t likable, and when I do not like the main character of a book, it’s difficult for me to feel differently about the story as a whole.

  1. Thank you for the review. I don’t think I would have come upon this book if you hadn’t reviewed it. In recent years I’ve also gotten into m/m porn star stories. I haven’t found many (I’ve probably read a handful) so it’s always fun to discover new ones. Here are some more rec’s with stories involving characters who become porn stars (that is if you haven’t read them already): Patient Eyes by Andy Eisenberg (might be out of print now but it never hurts to email the author…), Keeping Sweets by Cate Ashwood, and A Prairie Dog’s Love Song by Eli Easton
