Hello everyone! Welcome to day five of the Hell & High Water Blog Tour. I’m so happy to be here at Prism Book Alliance celebrating the release of the first book in my THIRDS series which is out on Monday July 7th! Again, a big thank you to everyone who’s following the tour. So far we’ve discussed how Therians came about, the THIRDS world, the organization that keeps the peace, and the agents at the heart of it all. Today I’m going to share with you a little inside info on Unit Alpha and it’s Therian agents.
On our last stop I talked about the different departments inside the THIRDS. The first six books of the series focus on the squad Destructive Delta which is part of Unit Alpha. As I mentioned on the last stop, Unit Alpha handles major crimes which is why this unit has some of the most lethal, tough as nails Therian agents at the THIRDS. Not to say the Human agents can’t kick some butt, but when you’ve got a three-hundred-pound tiger Therian perpetrator in his Therian form, a Human agent is in over his head, even if that agent is a Defense agent. To fight huge Therian criminals, you need huge Therian agents.
In Unit Alpha, the majority of agents are either Felids (Big Cats) or Canids (wolves). Defense agents are all Felids: jaguars, lions, tigers, cougars, and leopards–each one with the strength of at least two Humans. Recon and Intel agents, along with medical staff are primarily smaller Felids like cheetahs, or Canids.
Like a lot of other organizations, there’s always a “star” department. The cool floor everyone wishes they worked on. Unit Alpha is the most popular unit of any THIRDS branch, but it’s not all fame and glamour. Unit Alpha is the most difficult unit to get into and the most dangerous position to have. Vacancies are rare and competition is fierce. These agents put their lives on the line every time they go out in the field, and Defense agents are the first to head into the fray.
I know what you’re thinking. If Therian agents are so tough and awesome, why do they need Human partners? For many reasons. For one, if a case involves a Human perpetrator but the threat is against a Therian, jurisdiction falls to the THIRDS rather than the HPF (Human Police Force). Also, Human agents provide a specialized type of support to their Therian partners called Postshift Trauma Care. Without this care, a Therian can die after shifting back to his or her Human form. Human agents need to be able to provide this care to their Therian partners under all kinds of tense situations. Human and Therian agents need each other. A special bond is needed between the agents in order for the partnership to work. With that said, our next stop we’ll learn more about the heroes of our story: Destructive Delta.

Action. Comedy. Romance. And that one weird guy.
When homicide detective Dexter J. Daley’s testimony helps send his partner away for murder, the consequences—and the media frenzy—aren’t far behind. He soon finds himself sans boyfriend, sans friends, and, after an unpleasant encounter in a parking garage after the trial, he’s lucky he doesn’t find himself sans teeth. Dex fears he’ll get transferred from the Human Police Force’s Sixth Precinct, or worse, get dismissed. Instead, his adoptive father—a sergeant at the Therian-Human Intelligence Recon Defense Squadron otherwise known as the THIRDS—pulls a few strings, and Dex gets recruited as a Defense Agent.
Dex is determined to get his life back on track and eager to get started in his new job. But his first meeting with Team Leader Sloane Brodie, who also happens to be his new jaguar Therian partner, turns disastrous. When the team is called to investigate the murders of three HumaniTherian activists, it soon becomes clear to Dex that getting his partner and the rest of the tightknit team to accept him will be a lot harder than catching the killer—and every bit as dangerous.
Out Monday, July 7th
