All the books in the What’s His Passion? imprint have a character who is passionate about something.

For Adam Brand in Vegas Hustle, it’s comic books. I chose that because I am a big fan of super-heroes. I don’t collect comics anymore, but I have an inventory of more than three thousand comics sitting in a storage unit.

As a child and young man, I identified with the teen heroes and wished I could have just a few of their powers but one thing I didn’t have back then was a gay hero.

Nowadays there are several LGBT characters, both men and women, in books by the big publishers, DC and Marvel. Adam mentions several of them, including Northstar, Apollo and Midnighter.

The first gay character I saw in comics was Extrano, Spanish for strange. He had just about every gay stereotype known to man. He wore bright, garish clothes and referred to himself as Auntie. He was even infected with HIV by a villain called the Hemo-Goblin.

I wasn’t reading comic books as much when an X-Men character named Northstar came out, but not much was done with him until many years later.

In Vegas Hustle, I created my own super-heroes named Archer and Romeo because I needed a story that somewhat mirrored what was happening to Adam and Javier. Specifically, two men on the run, and fighting an attraction to each other.

The follow-up to Vegas Hustle with be several years later but comics will still be Adam’s passion and will be a part of the story.

It’s certainly a passion not often seen in m/m.

Blurb:

A business trip to Las Vegas becomes a life or death situation for a comic book fan.

Comic book geek Adam Brand is young, good-looking and wealthy. He’s also a virgin because he’s not skilled at picking up guys. While in Vegas with his friend Dean to finalize a real estate deal, he throws caution to the wind and hires a professional. Hustler Javier Campos is just Adam’s type and his first time is perfect.

Things go very wrong when Dean and Adam have a run-in with two corrupt cops and Dean ends up dead. Adam must go into hiding with Javier where they realise their attraction is more than just a business arrangement.

About the Author:

Ethan Stone has recently returned to Oregon and is working on re-growing his web feet. He has been obsessed with two things in his life: books and all things gay. After spending years trying to ignore the voices in his head, he finally decided to sit down and listen to them.

What he discovered was a perfect union of his two obsessions. Ethan used to have a day job that paid the bills. He wore a uniform to work and he looked damn sexy in it. Now he gets to wear sweatpants and watch movies all day.
