Having read the first in this Okinawa series ‘Conduct Unbecoming’, I was looking forward to returning to the military island.
Author: L.A. Witt
My Rating: 4 of 5 stars
From the Publisher:
A chance encounter, a chance at love…and one heartbreaking choice.
A Conduct Unbecoming sequel.
Ensign Aiden Lange is taking a hike—and it’s not for the pleasure of seeing Okinawa’s Hiji Falls. It’s in the hope that claiming he took a fall on the rocks will cover up the fact he was beaten up in a gay bar. Not a place a Naval Academy grad wants to get caught if he’s serious about his career.
At the end of the trail, a surprise comes with the scenery. A gorgeous young guy in swim trunks.
Connor didn’t come up to the falls to find a man, but he’s instantly intrigued by the ensign with the bandaged eyebrow. A hike turns into dinner, and before he knows it, he’s up to his heart in love with the gentle, infinitely patient Aiden.
It’s a small world, though, and an even smaller island. It’s only a matter of time before they’re caught by a man who’s more than just Connor’s overprotective father. He’s also Aiden’s high-ranking boss. Someone with the power to force Aiden to choose—Connor, or his naval career.
As can always be expected from L.A. Witt, the writing is clear and beautifully balanced. The lovely descriptions of Okinawa, and what it is like to live on a small insular world dominated by a US military base continue from where ‘Conduct Unbecoming’ left off. Although, this is a stand alone story, the couple from the previous book, Eric and Shane, do appear and have a special role in the epilogue.
The couple who feature in this book are Aiden a new young Ensign, and Connor who is still in college on Okinawa where he lives with his father and step mother. If you are looking for a sexy, romance set in an exotic environment then this is the read for you.
Despite the obvious difficulties to be faced by the young couple, already mentioned in the blurb, there is very little story. It is really is two men meet, two men fall in love very quickly, two men have a lot of sex in lots of places with a happy epilogue.
It is a well written example of a simple love story.
I would like to thank L.A. Witt and Samhain Publishing for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
