Meek and mild Bruce Collins decides to set aside his life in technical support for the evening and try a wild night on the town. Self-described nerd Bruce meets suave Westley Taylor at a club, but the night doesn’t go as planned. When they run into each other the next day, Bruce is determined to get the details right and finish what they started. Westley is impressed and invites Bruce on date after date. Bruce figures they’re technically dating and might even be in a relationship, until he accidentally overhears a phone message intended for Westley. Every aspect of their time together comes into question. Now, it’s time for Westley to set the facts straight.
I was looking forward to this novella from a new to me author, Jenna Wade. I have a soft spot for geeky main characters. Maybe it is because I can relate, to an extent, maybe it is just the idea of a guy in glasses and a comic book shirt. Either way, I fell in love with Bruce from the beginning.
This story is not perfect, there were times when I thought I was missing something, that something pertinent had been left out, or that the time jumps were a bit too abrupt. I also wanted to know about about Westley’s back story. We got to know Bruce’s family well enough, but with the exception of one very short scene with his friends, Westley was mostly a mystery. I had no idea why Bruce would think he wasn’t good enough for Westley. I had no idea why going out with Bruce was “out of the norm” for Westley. I felt like I was often told things what would have been more powerful shown.
All that being what it is; I did enjoy Technically dating. It was a light and quick read. I look forward to seeing what else Wade has to offer us in the future.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
