Title: Breathing Into Fire
Author: Renee George
Publisher: Ellora’s Cave
Rating: 4.5 of 5 Stars
For ten thousand years, the phoenix has tied its fate to that of the dragon. As each new firebird rises from the ashes, she’s mated to the last-born dragon, ensuring the latter’s continued existence and prosperity. Should the mating not occur, dragons will eventually cease to exist.
As the chosen dragon, Grayson Stephens is aware of his responsibility, but he doesn’t have to be happy about it. Giving up a life of sexy hook-ups with coeds is no easy task. But there are some benefits to marrying Gemini Toru. If history’s any indicator, she’s beautiful. She’s never been touched by another. She’s unspoiled, pure…
And much to Gray’s shock, she is also a he.
I enjoyed this novella. It was easy to read and had an overall lighthearted feel. There was destiny and mating and magic that pushed the main characters towards instant love, but there was more.
Grayson is the last dragon and as such is honor bound to marry the phoenix. He isn’t thrilled, but he is resigned to his fate since knows that when the magic kicks in, he will love his mate no matter what. Well, that is until he meets his mate and discovers she is really a he! Let the games begin, lol. Poor Gray no longer knows which way is up. He is instantly attracted to Gem, but does not know how to handle himself. His journey to acceptance of his new fate is rather comical and fun to watch.
But once he does accept his fate, he realizes that gender is not of importance. Gem is still the person he exchanged letters with growing up and is the person he knows best. After William the crazy destroys the marriage ceremony, Gem and Gray realize that magic had nothing to do with the love they feel for each other and still choose to live HEA as a couple. The men are great together. Tender and HOT at the same time.
I really liked this novella. I know I said that already, but it is worth repeating. I enjoyed the journey these two men took towards falling in love. I was so happy when their love overcame destiny and morphed into an eternal bond that saved the dragon race. This was a nice, romantic tale that left me feeling warm and fuzzy. I will read this again.
A note of warning for all of you M/M purists. There are M/F scenes in this novella.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
