Bryan Monroe has always catalogued his life in terms of moments—right moments, wrong moments, perfect moments. But when his best friend and partner on the police force, Chrys Delos, is shot in a raid gone bad, it’s one of the worst moments of Bryan’s life.
Bryan’s been secretly in love with Chrys for years, and the shooting is a wake-up call that it might be time to tell Chrys the truth. The problem is, Bryan’s never been with a man before, so in addition to worrying about Chrys’ injuries, he’s an indecisive wreck over the future.
But with the help of two unlikely matchmakers, Bryan knows it’s time to find the courage, and the perfect moment, to tell Chrys exactly how he feels…
Never the Perfect Moment by K-lee Klein was a wonderful friends to lovers tale. When friends start having feelings for each other, this becomes very risky business as there is always the fear of destroying a friendship if the relationship does not work. This was the theme of Never the Perfect Moment and Ms. Klein did a great job of portraying each character’s struggle with this concept. The reader gets to see and feel first hand Bryan’s struggle to come to grips with his emerging feelings. I understood his pain and felt his fear. I felt his confusion as he evaluated his sexuality. I felt the sexual tension he tried to keep in check once he made the decision to tell Chrys of his feelings. I also felt his embarrassment and discomfort when his son forced his “perfect moment” by blabbing his feelings for Chrys. For such a short tale, there was amazing character development ample time for the reader to make a connection to the men.
Chrys’ struggles were not as straight forward as Bryan’s. In fact, it was through the use of Chrys’ father that the reader finds out Chrys’ struggle with his feelings for Bryan. But just as with Bryan, Ms Klein provided just the right information and character interaction to emphasize the emotions of both Chrys and his father.
I loved the interaction between the two men once they came together. They were so carefree and open. Their relationship was full of lighthearted joking, tender emotions, and pent up sexual frustration. These men have been friends and partners for so long, that it was a natural and easy progression to lovers. Ms. Klein did a great job of bringing this relationship to fruition.
This is my first experience with K-Lee Klein’s works and if this is any indication of her talent, I will be looking into reading more. I really enjoyed this short novella and recommend this to anyone looking for an angst free love story.
Already a K-Lee Klein fan, I anxiously read Never The Perfect Moment … and found a delightfully sweet and romantic friends to lovers story! Longtime friends Bryan and Chrys begin to have decidedly “more than friends” feelings for each other, which is particularly confusing to Bryan who has henceforth identified as straight. Gay Chrys knows how he feels for Bryan, but doesn’t think there is any chance that his love for hetero Bryan will ever be returned. When Bryan finally accepts that he’s fallen in love with Chrys, he doesn’t know how to tell his friend and worries that he may ruin a wonderful friendship if his feelings are not returned.
One of best parts of Bryan and Chrys’ love story is the sizzling sexual tension between the two men. The slow burn, “cut it with a knife” sexual energy is delicious for both the reader and the characters, with the payoff when Bryan and Chrys admit their feelings (and get physical!) being so, so worth it! Also, the character development of the two men is amazing. This is a story that leaves me smiling with the knowledge that I have had the opportunity to glimpse into the lives of the story’s characters and to share their combined joy at their new found love.
Take my word for it … NOW is the perfect moment to read this lovely and romantic story!
