Sometimes a friendship resonates stronger than simple male bonding. When Jim, Dylan and Fred first meet at college, they knew there was something more to their triad than beer and classwork—music connects them. That, and something else.

Dylan and Fred’s desperate, secret love for Jim.

During a summer vacation where the boys struggle to find their sound and to determine whether they can make the band work long term, Fred struggles with his closeted status and Dylan with his angry demons. Too much unsaid and left to fester may tear these three apart.

My View:

I am not sure how I feel about this novella. It seems like there is a lot going on but no resolution. There is no plot and very little character growth. It just ends with no warning. I know this was intended to be the start of a series, but it felt more like the start of one story in the series. Or maybe this should be promoted as a serial instead of a series. Then I would have expected this to be part of a whole. But overall, I felt very dissatisfied with the content and the ending. There was the start of a great plot, but it just read as unfinished.

The blurb talks about Dylan and Fred’s secret love for Jim, but it seemed to be presented more as an obsession. Dylan and Fred even use other for sex while thinking of Jim and even going as far as shouting his name during orgasm. This felt very weird for me. Dylan is often hurtful to Fred and treats him as if he is stupid. He belittles him but still runs back to him for sexual satisfaction. I just did not connect with these men or their story.

Overall, this one just did not work for me. There was nothing inherently wrong with the story or the writing, it just did not match with any of my likes and preferences. I am sure there are readers out there who will enjoy this, I am just not one of them.
