Michael Sebastian thought Curacao would be the perfect place to have a little fun in the sun–and between the sheets. So far, no one has struck his interest, until Sam Anderson walks into the bar. With one look at his tense body and expensive suit, Michael knows that this is a man in need of release. And Michael is more than willing to lend a hand.
Shattered by the most intense sex he’s ever had, Sam has to face the facts–one night with a handsome, dominating stranger is all he gets before returning to the closet he’s been suffocating in for years. But when Sam starts his new job as the CEO of a failing technology company, he discovers that Michael is one of his new employees.
While Michael is desperate for another night with Sam, he knows he shouldn’t get involved with his boss, let alone another man who can’t accept who he is. But as they’re forced to work together to save the company, the desire sparking between them becomes impossible to ignore…
I have a real weakness for anything set in a corporate environment so the suits on the cover caught my eye immediately, then the blurb hooked me. And wow is all I can say. This book is hot and intense from the first page. I’m the kind of MM reader that usually skips through sex scenes and is quite happy with fade to black but with Takeover I read every single word and I was captivated, I couldn’t skip a sentence even if I’d wanted too.
Sam Anderson, successful businessman, champion and destroyer of companies, is so far in the closet he’s forgotten his way back to the door. He’s had to be to get where he is today, but before he takes up his new role as CEO of ailing technology company Four Rivers Networks Sam heads to Curacao to unwind, to let his worries and concerns go for just a few days, maybe indulge in some flirting and meaningless sex. What he didn’t expect was to meet Michael Sebastian, a man who sees right through him to the needy bottom he buries deep, to the submissive he yearns to be. As Michael says on that fatal first night ‘You looked like a man in need of a good fuck’, and Sam is certainly that.
One chapter in and I couldn’t put the book down. My heart was hurting for Sam wondering if his success was really worth it when it made him feel like he does, lonely and bitter, and being forced to hide who he wants to be.
Back at work after his vacation and his one night with Sam Michael faces a disaster. As head of software testing Michael is responsible for signing off and authorizing all code releases, but during his absence the current COE forced through the release of the latest upgrade, a release of code that didn’t work properly. The release turned into a fiasco and caused a ripple of anger among their customers, plus it made Four Rivers a laughing stock among their peers. Michael was a founder member of Four Rivers, but an unacknowledged one, he has shares, but not enough to walk away, instead when the original members sold up Michael stayed to run his team as best he could, and now, after the exit of his COE, he has the fiasco to fix plus a new boss to deal with, a boss it turns out he’s actually met once before.
Can Sam and Michael reconcile their one night in Curacao with the roles they have at Four Rivers? Sam is closeted so initially the answer is no. Michael is angry over being robbed of his rightful share of the company by his former partners, and lover, and the board. He is only staying in loyalty to his colleagues and Sam’s arrival throws everything into sharp contrast.
Both men want each other, desperately; and they want more than a causal encounter. As they work together to try and save the company old ghosts rear their head, and ultimately Sam has to decide what’s more important, his career, or a chance of a future with Michael. Michael also has to learn to let his ghosts lie if he wants Sam, plus dodgy dealings among the board puts everything Sam and Michael want at risk. The plot interested me as it’s far too close to my day job, but these two men could be in any company, any industry, and the issue would still be the same, what price is a man willing to pay for his success?
I loved every minute of Takeover, it’s hot and intense, the characters and real, they’re vulnerable, and the characterisation is spot on with the story being told through both men’s eyes. I cared about them; I wanted them to have it all, each other and to secure the future of Four Rivers. I really can’t recommend this book highly enough and I’ll certainly be looking up Ana Zabo’s backlist.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
