Modern fairy-tale princess Taylor Hatfield has problems. One: he’s a guy. Two: his perfect brother Atticus is the reincarnation of Snow White. Three: Taylor has no idea which princess he is supposed to be. Four: Taylor just left his prince (a girl) at the altar. Despite his enchanted lineage, Taylor is desperate to find his Happily Ever After away from magic, witches, and stuffy traditions. Regrettably, destiny has other plans for him. Dammit.
When word reaches Taylor that Idi the Witchking has captured Atticus, Taylor is determined to save his brother. He enlists the help of rakish and insufferable Corentin Devereaux, likewise of enchanted lineage. A malicious spell sends Taylor and Corentin on a road trip through the kitschy nostalgia of roadside Americana. To save Atticus, they must solve the puzzles put forth by Idi the Witchking. As they struggle, Taylor and Corentin’s volatile partnership sparks a flash of something more. But princesses have many enemies, and Taylor must keep his wits about him because there’s nothing worse than losing your heart… or your head.

What an epic road trip! Americana Fairy Tale by Lex Chase was an awesomely unique take on the fairy tale universe. There were male princesses, female princes, fairy godfather pixies, traditional good guys actually being bad guys, and the list just goes on and on. The characters were twists on the traditional in such a way that they were utterly fabulous. These men and women own their curses and use their skills to their best advantages. I am looking forward to more from this world.
There are just so many good things I want to say about this book that I know I will miss many but I will start with the plot. It was fun, it was thrilling, it was tense, it was exhausting, but most of all it was pure entertainment and I loved it. There was family drama, failed wedding attempts, magical chastity belts, and one road trip from hell that will not end! I was sucked in and held on for dear life as I rooted for the happy ending. Ms. Chase kept me guessing and wanting more. As the tale unfolded, things just kept growing and building momentum until the final showdown at the end. It was full of cinematic type fighting as well as tender romance. I would love to live inside Ms. Chases imagination for a little while, I am sure it would be a fun ride!
In addition to the great characters and the lively plot, the love story was well done. It was a slow burn full of ups, downs, forgetfulness, and discovery. These two men are so lost in their own quests, that they don’t see that they are meant to be together right away. They argue, they physically fight, the get on each others nerves, but in the end, their love is perfect. They are meant to be and it is wonderful when they get together. I hope for more from these men!
I also liked the structure of this book. The chapter titles were so much fun and pertinent to the storyline. They gave the reader a small clue as to what was coming next and I think the author made them work well. This is the type of book that I will have to read multiple times before I can say that I have caught everything. It was well written and full of life. I am looking forward to reading this again and see which details I pick up on the second time.
Honestly, I don’t know what to say about this book that I don’t like. This is my first experience with Lex Chase and if her other works are anywhere near as well done as this one, I will be running out and purchasing them all. I am eager for more from this series! When is the next one coming out?
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
