This is the first part of a new serial.

Author: Amy Lane

Publisher: Dreamspinner Press

Cover Artist: unknown

Rating: 5 of 5 Stars

In a town as small as Tyson, CA, everybody knew the four brothers with the four different fathers– and their penchant for making good music when they weren’t getting into trouble. For Mackey Sanders, playing in Outbreak Monkey with his brothers and their friends—especially Grant Adams–made Tyson bearable. But Grant has plans for getting Mackey and the Sanders boys out of Tyson, even if that means staying behind.

Between the heartbreak of leaving Grant and the terrifying, glamorous life of rock stardom, Mackey is adrift and sinking fast. When he’s hit rock bottom, Trav Ford shows up, courtesy of their record company and a producer who wants to see what Mackey can do if he doesn’t flame out first. But cleaning up his act means coming clean about Grant, and that’s not easy to do or say. Mackey might make it with Trav’s help–but Trav’s not sure he’s going to survive falling in love with Mackey.

Mackey James Sanders comes with a whole lot of messy, painful baggage, and law-and-order Trav doesn’t do messy or painful. And just when Trav thinks they may have mastered every demon in Mackey’s past, the biggest, baddest demon of all comes knocking.

My View:

Amy Lane at her best and yes there is lots and lots of angst!

If you read the blurb for this book the first paragraph covers this first instalment and you will be left hanging off a very large cliff and biting your finger nails! It is a very cruel author that releases such a gripping story in instalments!

The Sanders boys are well known around town for all the wrong reasons. They each have a different father, live with their single mother in a rundown apartment and more often than not don’t have enough money for the basics. Having said that they are not an unhappy family and they make do. They are a close unit and have a few good friends who they can rely on. They also play together in a band and maybe one day that will the way out of their poverty.

Mackey is only 14 when the story starts. He is smaller than his 2 older brothers, he is pretty and he knows he is different but that is something he counteracts with his cockiness and brashness. It is also something he never speaks about. He writes the bands lyrics and lives for the music he plays and sings. When he sings for an audience he feels like he is the music and for him there is no other feeling like it.

Grant is a member of the band and Kell Sander’s best friend. He is also the guy that gives Mackey his first kiss. Unlike the Sander’s boys Grant comes from quite a wealthy family but money does not bring happiness. His father is a controlling asshole and makes Grants life difficult in more ways than one.

For the next 5 years the guys play more and more gigs in the hope of being noticed and signed to a record label. Grant and Mackey continue their affair but it becomes more and more difficult hiding it from everyone else in their lives. When a record company finally show interest it should make Mackey the happiest man in the world instead Grant drops a bombshell that leaves him falling apart. Then…….Amy Lane left me hanging!!!!
