Riley Cooper is on the run. Misha Tokarev, the love of his life, turned out to be an assassin for the Russian mob, and when it comes to character flaws, Riley draws the line at premeditated murder. Alien armor system McClane is also on the run, for reasons that include accidentally crashing a space ship into Earth and evading U.S. military custody. A failed prototype, McClane was scheduled for destruction. Sabotaging the ship put an end to that, but McClane is dubbed a bone rider for good reason—he can’t live without a host body. That’s why he first stows away in Riley’s truck and then in Riley himself. Their reluctant partnership soon evolves into something much more powerful—and personal—than either of them could have imagined.
Together, they embark on a road trip from hell, made all the more exciting by the government troops and mob enforcers hot on their trail. Misha is determined to win Riley back and willing to do whatever it takes to keep him safe. When hitman and alien join forces, they discover their impressive combined potential for death and destruction. It will take everything Riley has to steer them through the mess they create.
So there was this little book that about 100 different people have told me I needed to read. I read the blurb and wasn’t sure said book was for me. Something happened, and I decided to bite the bullet and read it… WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG???
Bone Rider by J Fally is not like anything I have read. I love it just for being different. But I also love it for what it is. If you are a fan of action flicks, this is a book for you. It isn’t deep. It isn’t going to tug at your heart. What it will do is entertain you. There is some sharp wit in the dialogue. There is some hot sex with and alien entity (trust me on this, it is hot not weird). There is a little love between two people that shouldn’t work, but do. You get to hate the government and love the bad guy.
The aliens aren’t infallible, but they aren’t out to get you, either. They are just trying to survive. As such, the alien AI that will come to known as McClane (yes, after THAT McClane) merges with Riley, a human on the run from the mob… and the love of his life… which just happen to be one in the same. He is respectful of the fact that Riley did not ask for the merger. As things progress, we see not only what he needs from Riley, but also what he can do for Riley and those around them. You want them to become one. You want them to get their HEA as much as you want Riley and Misha to find their own.
Yeah, so menage with a symbiotic alien may sound weird, but it works, somehow. Of all the m/m and gay fiction stories I have read, this one most needs to be a movie. I would love to see some of these scenes on the big screen. Just saying.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
