Living a care-free party life-style, junior journalist and gay lifestyle reporter, Liam Adams thought he had it all; the money, the job, the endless supply of men in his bed. But when his work causes him to question the very foundation of the life he has built for himself, Liam finds certain areas are glaringly lacking. All it takes is one assignment to unravel the very fabric of his promiscuous antics, compounded by the arrival of a long-forgotten tryst. With the rusty screech of the mailroom guy’s trolley wheels, Liam lands head-first in the arms of something bigger; something more.
As the romance burgeons between Liam and the Mail-Manny of his dreams, each article he writes proves to uncover something new and never realized about himself, namely that all the one-night-stands in the world could never give him what he truly wants; love. In a slapstick commentary through the eyes of the world’s most hypersensitive journalist, watch as Liam’s story unfolds in the most ridiculous of fashions, leading him straight into the arms of love, via The Rainbow Connection.
Liam, a self proclaimed party boy who is quite proficient with participating in one night stands, is a gay lifestyles reporter who is in the midst of some serious self reflection largely as a result of a recent writing assignment. Upon taking a good, hard look at his life, he finds it lacking in genuine sincerity and real relationships. Enter Mail-Manny, the guy who delivers the mail at work. He’s gorgeous, sweet, and definitely not one night stand material. Liam is smitten …
Perhaps the best aspect of this book is Liam’s unflinching self reflection. He truly begins to view himself as others see him, and he doesn’t necessarily like the direction in which his life is headed. He recognizes the emptiness of much of his existence, and his honest and almost vulnerable delight at meeting and developing a relationship with Mail-Manny is endearing and refreshing. His realization that he no longer wants to live an empty life of meaningless hook-ups, and that he instead wants to be loved, allows Liam to drop his self-protective defenses and allow Mail-Manny into his heart.
Liam voices this story, and he has an almost constant internal dialog running through his mind that is shared with the reader. He is sarcastic, hilarious, sometimes a bit sad and vulnerable, a little vulgar, and totally real. Liam is somewhat over the top – the use of descriptive adjectives and adverbs abound in his “thoughts” almost to the extreme. He’s also extra sensitive about his journalistic writing, and the epitome of dramatic. However, Liam is someone that I would dearly love to know (and gossip with over a bottle of wine).
BJ Sheppard is a delightful newer voice in m/m romance. Please do not miss reading this uniquely wonderful story!
