Lowell Cartwright’s life as a mercenary problem solver has taken its toll, and after one more difficult job, he wants out. For help, he turns to Bull, a soldier of fortune turned club owner—not exactly a friend, but the best chance Lowell has. He visits Bull’s club to scope it out and meets Jeremy Hodgson. The twink captures his attention in a big way. Bull tells Lowell to stay away from the club until he decides whether he can help, so Lowell stays in town. When he spots Jeremy passed out on the floor of a convenience store, he goes to Jeremy’s aid.
Lowell piques Jeremy’s interest immediately, pushing all the right buttons. Then, when Jeremy needs help, Lowell’s kindness turns interest into something more.
But trouble comes knocking when Jeremy’s place is bugged. Maybe Lowell’s past is catching up to him, or maybe the danger centers on Jeremy’s roommate Tristan’s mysterious boyfriend. Whatever the source of the problem, the future Lowell and Jeremy hope for doesn’t stand a chance unless they can find a way to protect themselves.
First, happy dance for the fantastic cover photo – just love hot Dirk Caber, real life hubby of equally hunky Jesse Jackman, who is pictured on the cover of the first book in this great series, Inside Out. These two men are so sweetly devoted to each other that they’re beyond lovable!
Lowell is the mercenary, Spook, who, in Inside Out, tried to coerce Bull into rejoining his former life of secrecy and killing. A truly unlikable character in Inside Out, Lowell has grown weary of his mercenary lifestyle and he now wants out. He goes to Bull’s club to speak with him since Bull is the only former mercenary who Lowell knows has successfully gotten out of the mercenary game alive. While there, he is immediately taken with cute as a button twink Jeremy, a friend of Bull’s sweetie, Zach. They dance, they flirt, Lowell soon steps in to rescue an ill Jeremy when he collapses … and they are adorable together!
This is my favorite of Andrew Grey’s many series … Upside Down is the perfect sequel to Inside Out. Lowell is a man with a harsh past, but he desperately wants a second chance. With Jeremy’s acceptance and understanding, Lowell begins to see the decency and gentle man within his sole. Lowell and Jeremy are perfection together – they are too, too sexy – I recently have developed a soft spot for the twink/bearish, muscular man trope, and this story is delightful! I also love how Jeremy is such a rich and important character in the story. It would be easy for Lowell’s strong personality to overshadow Jeremy, but Jeremy holds his own within their relationship, and in the story itself. He never waivers in his belief in Lowell’s innate goodness, and he staunchly trusts his man in the face of grave danger. Also, Lowell’s awe and appreciation of Jeremy’s love and trust is endearing.
Upside Down is nothing short of a sexy delight! Read this book, and enjoy this fantastic story of a second chance, truly non-judgmental love, and exciting action! Lowell and Jeremy together are sweet and luscious … Yummy!
