It is almost time! In just over 24 hours, I will be heading to the north side of town to pick up Ms. Becky Condit so we can start our journey to Chicago.
This is my first GRL, so I am excited and terrified in equal measure. I have thought about backing out at least 20 times in the last two weeks. So make the trip worth it for me 🙂
If you are going to be there, be sure to find me. Here is a picture of me from the RT blogger pre-con, so you know what I look like.
Funny, I am wearing that shirt right now, as I type this up!
I am socially awkward, to say the least. I am pretty good at faking it, but I do have moments where I just don’t know the proper protocol. I might be at a loss as to how to act in a given situation. If I look lost, a hand will be greatly appreciated.
I am an introvert. I know many of you are, as well, so you will understand that sometimes I just have to shut down and regroup. I will never ignore you on purpose. I want to meet you; I want to hug you (if you are a hugger, if not just a handshake will do). If you want my attention get it, I may be so far in my own headspace that I don’t realize what is going on around me. I may be at the end of my rope and just not be able to process what I am supposed to be doing.
I speak from experience of my first two cons. I don’t want anyone to feel I alienated them. If you do feel that way, call me on it. I will snap back to reality 😉
I am a little more relaxed this time than I was for RainbowCon and RT because I have some idea what to expect from the experience and myself. I never know if my gregarious side or my pensive side will show up to a given social situation. This time, I have an idea. Unfortunately, it will probably be some weird combination of the two.
One new experience this time will be that I am on a panel. I will be joining Jay, Lisa, and Susan for the Dealing with Bloggers (or whatever we finally called it) panel during the Writer’s Workshop. I am nervous as hell, so if you are going to be at the Writer’s Workshop and are a friendly face, I would love it if you could stop by. For some reason, an empty room scares me more than a full one.
Another new experience will be that some of my team will be there! I can’t tell you how excited I am to meet these ladies. We have been working together for the better part of the year, and they are truly awesome, but we finally get to meet face to face. Also, I won’t be the only representative of Prism there. I am hoping that will take some of the pressure off me and let me cut loose a little more.
Finally, I can’t believe some of the people I will finally get to meet. I met a lot of great people at RT and Rainbowcon, so I will get to see them again. We will have to have a reunion of the No Assholes group for sure (You know who you are)! So many people I am looking forward to seeing again, I can’t name them all for fear I would forget someone. Same with friends I have yet to meet in person. But unlike RT and RainbowCon, I am going to get to meet some of Prism’s readers. You don’t understand how much that excites me!
Oh and I have the best travel buddy and roommate ever! GRL is the third convention this year that we have traveled and roomed together. You would think she would be sick of me by now! See you soon, Becky 🙂
Much Love and see you Tomorrow!
