Mackey is great at taking a leap of faith into a crowd—but taking one into a relationship and a future is a totally different animal. When he and Trav decide to take a risk that Mackey’s healing can hold up to them together, they know it’s going to be a long, difficult road. Mackey proves he can handle the stress of performing on his own, but when it comes to the demons that broke him in the first place, that’s a whole other song.
The first time Mackey tries to go home, it sends him into a palm-sweating, stomach-heaving anxiety attack, and Trav has to concede that Mackey is still on loan from the things that almost wrecked him when he was still a kid. When news arrives that affects the entire band, Mackey can either go home and face his demons or let them haunt them forever.
As Mackey continues to fight his addictions daily, sometimes hourly, his brothers and Trav do everything in their power to prevent him slipping. Even though there are some close calls it looks as though he is finally getting it together and each day is a bonus.
As the band returns to the limelight for a small show before going back out on tour there is a real make or break moment for Mackey when nothing seems to be going to plan. Drawing on everything he has he resolves the issues as calmly as his temper will allow but doesn’t resort to his usual props of pills and Vodka. On top of managing his bands requirements he makes a friend and this is yet another huge achievement for the difficult Mackey Sanders. Briony is a sassy young girl who won’t take any of Mackey’s bluster and maybe just what the doctor ordered.
Home for Christmas and along rolls the next crisis. Running out of the Airport to the sanctuary of his home seems the best idea when Mackey is certain that going home and facing Grant is something he is just not ready for. What he doesn’t expect is the outpouring of love and support from Trav and his family as yet another close call is averted.
Weeks later when everything is going so well Trav feels as though he is waiting for the other shoe to drop….and then it does by means of a phone call to Kell. Trav and Mackey have their first major full on shouting match where Kell finally learns the secrets from his brothers childhood. When all the shouting and tears have finished there is only one thing for certain – the boys are heading home and it’s not for happy reasons.
The extra scene at the end! Again with the angst Amy Lane!! That is a cruel, cruel solution. Maybe it’s not as bad as it seems hmmmm?
