I feel like I repeat myself every week but again I opened this on my kindle with trepidation. It feels a little like the writing is on the wall. The boys are going back to Tyson and there is no way Mackey can get out of it this time. Grant is dying and I am positive Amy Lane is going to draw big ugly sobs out of many of us before this is all over.
So in short Briony is ill, Kell may or not have fallen for someone, the twins are their usual selves, Mackey is a wreck, Trav doesn’t know what he is, Cheever is an absolute nightmare and Grant is like a walking, pot smoking skeleton. Things are not good whatever way you look at them.
The sight of Grant is a shock to everyone and this part of the serial is pretty emotional. It’s kind of like the bit before goodbye and it is leading us, with no small amount of tension, towards the end. Mackey does well to keep a lid on his emotions when he first sees his old lover but it hits him hard and as usual he relies on Grant to keep him steady. There is concern and an air of finality about that no one wants to talk about.
Returning to Tyson is difficult for the band for many different reasons. Things have not changed and the minds of the town folk are still small and closed off. With the boys in such an emotional state it doesn’t take much to set them off which ends with a serious yet funny outcome. It all becomes too much for Grant though and he needs a time out without Mackey and this doesn’t go down well.
One of the results is a major meltdown the next day that brings back some awful memories and again shows Kell just how out of the loop he is. There is still a lot of healing to be done but I think the aftermath of the meltdown points to just how far they have come and how much stronger they are individually and as a group.
The usual thing happens and Amy leaves us hanging without a resolution! I will now sit here for a week fretting about many things that I have no control over but have come to care about deeply!!
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
