Reeling from the recent death of his wife, police officer Evan Cerelli looks at his four children and can only see how he fails them. His loving wife was the caretaker and nurturer, and now the single father feels himself being crushed by the pain of loss and the heavy responsibility of raising his kids.
At the urging of his partner, Evan celebrates a coworker’s retirement and meets disgraced former cop turned security consultant Matt Haight. A friendship born out of loneliness and the solace of the bottle turns out to be exactly what they both need.
The past year has been a slow death for Matt Haight. Ostracized from his beloved police force, facing middle age and perpetual loneliness, Matt sees only a black hole where his future should be. When he discovers another lost soul in Evan, some of the pieces he thought he lost start to fall back in place. Their friendship turns into something deeper, but love is the last thing either man expected, and both of them struggle to reconcile their new and overwhelming feelings for one another.

This is my first experience with Tere Michaels. I am trying to branch out to new authors and with Ms. Michaels I am so glad that I did.
Faith & Fidelity was a very emotional story for me. I cried right off the bat before the prologue was even finished. I mean the story hadn’t even started and I was a mess! Ms. Michaels di an outstanding job painting a picture of utter sorrow. I could feel Evan’s heartache radiating off the pace. I could vividly see him at the funeral. There in body, but mentally distanced from the world. Stuck inside his own head not able to move beyond the hurt and grief. His coffin side breakdown had me bawling. Ms. Michaels had me hooked from the very first moment I began reading.
As the story progressed, the emotions did not let up, they only changed intensity and focus. Once Matt and Evan met, things went from utter despair and loneliness to confusion and excitement. The story focused on the growing friendship between the men and how it turned into something more. The focus was on the relationship growth and the struggle each man had with coming to terms with falling in love with someone of the same sex. Evan had the additional struggles of children and a typically homophobic career.
I loved that things were not perfect with these men. They did not jump into penetrative sex all of a sudden, in fact, they never get to that point in the book at all. They gradually work up to being together in bed. Yes there is lust, and lots of it, but these men were straight up until they met each other. I liked that they didn’t know what to do. this was not a tale of instant porn star quality sex. These men had to work for it.
Of course no good love story is ever perfect, and Evan freaks out and ends things. Matt is devastated since he is not only in love with Evan but his children as well. I was so upset when this happened! I mean these men were perfect for each other. But I also understand the fear of coming out to children who have just gone through the traumatic experience of losing their mother. Once again, Ms. Michaels wrote the emotion perfectly. I could easily see Evan wasting away as he struggled to maintain some semblance of himself for his kids sake.
I am sure my review is all over the place. I just do not seem to have the words to say how much I enjoyed this emotional roller coaster. I fell in love with the characters from the start and their story drew me in. I read this cover to cover in one sitting and didn’t even realize how far along I was until the words “the end” appeared. I want more! I am so glad this is a rerelease of an already published series. That means I have less time to wait for book 2! I highly recommend this book.
I would like to thank the publisher for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
