The suitcase has been emptied, and laundry is in the washing machine. The swag has been dumped on the bed and then stuffed back into the GRL tote to be sorted later. Most of my purchased books are in the loving hands of a fellow TeamPrism member and will be shipped to me in a few days. GRL2014 is over, and it’s time for a re-cap. Yet how do you describe four of the most fantastic days you’ve ever had? It’s not going to be easy, but I’ll try.
I arrived Wednesday night and met three of my TeamPrism group: Brandilyn, Pizzygirl, and Lirtle. Talk about instant bonding! We were so excited to finally meet, and it felt as though we had known each other all our lives. We set out for the Swag Room and set up the Prism table, checked out all the goodies that were calling out to us, and made our way back to the lobby (seriously, the walk was long and meandering!) for some Chicago style pizza. I met several wonderful authors and fellow bloggers that night, but can I say that Diana Copland and Edmond Manning just made my evening?
To say Thursday was my first full day is an understatement! As I picked up a quick continental breakfast courtesy of Riptide Publishing, I met the darling Becky Condit, the fabulous Andrew Grey, and Andrew’s husband, Dominic. We shared our meal standing in the crowded fireplace lounge, but it was marvelous. Then it was time for the Newbie Meet & Greet hosted by the lovely Joyfully Jay, where I got my cherry popped — er, sticker — and met others attending GRL for the first time. 😉
On to the Supporting Author Signing! Ho. Lee. Cow! I was overwhelmed by the number of tables and then by the realization of just who was sitting behind them. I met so much fabulousness: Jeff Adams, LE Franks, Vanessa North, Zathyn Priest, Posy Roberts, William Cooper, Kim Fielding, Chris Cox, Wade Kelly, and Max Vos. I know I’ve left out so many. I also found the incredible Catherine Dair and was loaded down with her beautiful buttons before I left the signing.
Then I was off to the first author reading, and what a treat — Edmond Manning, KC Wells, and Heidi Cullinan all in the same room, reading to us from their books! I was quite reserved, though, and didn’t fangirl too much. 😉
After the Author Lounge and Opening Reception, it was time for a quick dinner and getting ready for the Juke Joint. By then, our final TeamPrism member, Paisley, had joined us. Yay! Edmond was in fine form for dancing, of course!
Friday morning was packed with a wonderful Q&A panel featuring Kaje Harper, Kindle Alexander, and LC Chase, along with Author Readings by Dev Bentham, Rick R. Reed (who made me cry huge crocodile tears), and Lissa Kasey. A lively Storyteller Spotlight featuring a BDSM Panel with James Buchanan, Lisa Henry, and JP Barnaby and the Author’s Lounge followed.
During the Fun & Craft Fair, the lovely Shira Anthony graced us with a concert of opera arias and torch songs. Her voice is just as beautiful as she is!
Later that evening, it was time for some fun and gaming at Casino Royale. I played a little Blackjack with Andrew and Dominic and cruised the room with my TeamPrism pals.
I was pretty tired by this point, but nothing was going to stop me from spending my Saturday morning at author readings with JP Barnaby, Zahra Owens, Silvia Violet, DH Starr, J.A. Rock, and Brandon Witt.
The Featured Author Signing held many incredible fangirl moments for me! I cannot believe I met and spoke to so many of my favorite authors, and if I try to name them all, I will leave someone out. Here were some of the highlights, though:
TeamPrism shared one last Chicago style pizza before scurrying to get into our costumes for TimeTravel Costume Party. Paisley and I danced until the music stopped!
A bit bleary eyed, I joined TeamPrism for the Farewell Brunch, our last meal together. 🙁 I found a few final opportunities to say goodbye to people who would remain in my heart forever before heading back to the airport.
The flight home was a chance to reflect and re-live some of those incredible GRL moments. I will never forget the warm welcome I received from all the beautiful people I encountered, yet another testament to the grace, support, and love this community exudes.
At home, I gave my husband and furbabies kisses and hugs and unpacked my bags. As I started unloading the swag, it all hit me again….GRL2014 was indescribable!
Until next year in San Diego at GRL2015, love and hugs to all of you!
Much Love and thank you for your kind support of my GRL Posts!
