Not everyone gets a second chance with their first love.
Cost of Repairs, Book 5
David Weller thought he had it all—a loving partner who gave him a ring, a steady job he didn’t hate, and so much hope for the future. But in the wake of a devastating diagnosis, everything he thought was solid and real lay in pieces at his feet.
Four years later, he’s still sifting through the rubble of his life. His catering partnership occupies his days, while his nights are filled with dangerous sexual hookups and very bad decisions. Then the last person he ever expected to see again walks back into his life.
Owen Hart’s single biggest regret is the way he was forced to leave David behind—no explanations, no chance to make it right. Until now. Finally free of eight years of lies, Owen’s back for the only man he’s ever loved.
An incendiary encounter in a club proves that time hasn’t weakened their physical connection, but David’s wounds run deeper than Owen’s deception. And if David can’t first forgive, Owen doesn’t have a second chance in hell.
Warning: This book contains an Australian transplant with a head full of secrets, a party planner with enough baggage to sink a battleship, and a surly teenager who just wants them both to get over themselves.
We first met David Weller in Acts of Faith. He was Reys new business partner, didn’t like to talk too much about himself, never committed to anyone always preferring his one night hook ups. Now we learn why. For four years he had been happily ensconced in his life with the mysterious Owen, they even wore each other’s rings as a sign of their love and commitment. David had met Owen and his son Michael when they became neighbours and their friendship slowly became everything to him. Two days after receiving some devastating news about his health David came home to find Owen and Michael gone and his life came tumbling down around him.
We pick up on Davids story 4 years later where his hook ups are dangerous and he still hasn’t gotten over Owen.
While he and Rey are catering at their latest event the last person in the world David expects to see is Owen, but there he is, looking as beautiful as David remembers. When Owen tries to talk to David, begs to be allowed to explain his previous actions, David panics and runs hit by so much confusion, love and hatred that it almost brings him to his knees.
Owen is desperate to be heard and win back the only man he has ever loved. His life has been full of mayhem and deceit for the last 8 years but he is finally in a place where he can be honest if only David will listen. He needs Davids understanding and forgiveness if he is ever going to get his second chance. Davids hurt runs deeper than anyone expected and is all tied into events of his past. He needs to be able to face that and forgive if he is ever going to have a chance at forgiving Owen.
This is a book of hurt. Both men have things from their past that they weren’t honest about the first time round. Some of these are shocking, some of them are heart breaking but until both men put all their cards on the table neither will be able to move on and be happy. A great next chapter in the Cost of Repairs series.
