When the people you trusted turn on you, when you are the last one standing, should you take your secrets to the grave? Or make the murderers pay?
Former Marine Recon, Mackenzie ‘Mac’ Jackson has secrets. The things he did for his country, the things he saw, must never be spoken about. Until that is, his team is targeted.
A shift in political alliances means one particular mission undertaken by Mac and his Fire Team needs to be wiped from the history books. Starting with the team itself.
Forest Ranger, Samuel Larson III wants to find the Marines who saved his life. He just wants to say thank you. What he can’t know is that he’s walking into a firestorm of betrayal and murder.
When Samuel arrives at Mac’s place he throws Mac’s plans for hiding out of the window. Abruptly Mac has to protect a man that threatens his heart, only this time he can’t be sure he will succeed in keeping Sam alive.
As is usual with blog posts I get stuck about what to write. I want to post about things that readers want to know and so I asked my FB group what they wanted to know about my new release, Last Marine Standing
Trisha Harrington asked, how many books are there going to be in the Heroes series? Will any of the Sanctuary characters be in Last Marine Standing? And um, have you any news on the next Sanctuary book (presuming it’s still going ahead)? LOL.
At the moment I have three books planned in the hero series. Book 1, A Reason To Stay was Viktor and Aiden. Aiden’s best friend was a forest ranger called Sam.
Sam is the hero in book 2 along with former Marine Recon, Mackenzie *Mac* Jackson. In book 2 we are introduced to a friend of Mac’s called Deacon. Deacon is the hero of book 3 titled Deacon’s Law.
I don’t have plans for book 4 at the moment, but I think this series is going to have more books. Well, having said that, I do actually have plans for a book 4 but nothing concrete other than a nebulous idea of a Brit from MI5 getting all up in the face of an ex CIA operative with an axe to grind. So yeah, maybe book 4 is there already… rofl
All I need is the inspiration and the time!
None of the Sanctuary characters appear in Last Marine Standing. Apart from Viktor and Luca of course who appeared in Sanctuary 7, Worlds Collide, but who are really from heroes book 1. A couple of the Sanctuary characters appeared in A Reason To Stay and I loved revisiting them!
As to more Sanctuary books? Absolutely, I already have a couple of fresh ideas for Sanctuary 8 and 9, so watch this space in 2015. Of course, first I have to write Heroes #3, Bodyguards Inc #3 and #4, Silverstone (my F1 book) and of course Texas 6! No pressure then.
Spider grunted his agreement. The email had been for both of them from Wade, a newsletter of sorts, news, photos of his kids, a link to a news article about someone they’d known in the Marines, nothing special. Apart from one word. Abseil. A code word. A simple instruction to get the hell out of dodge and lay low. He’d once asked Wade why he stayed in as a Marine, albeit it intelligence and not out there on the ground. He’d said someone had to, to keep an eye on what was happening.
Ever since Fallujah, with Tyrone Glenn in the coffin that time, they’d had that single word. Danger. Warning. Get out, get down. They want us dead.
We’re an embarrassment now, and they need the pawns off the board. Permanently.
“Was only a matter of time,” Spider said.
“Always was. You think Roberts is involved?”
“Why else would Wade link us to that story? I’m pulling my file.”
Three memory sticks, three parts of the story.
Mac abruptly felt nausea rise inside him. They’d said they wouldn’t break the silence until only one of them was left and even then only if it meant something to anyone left. “And doing what with it? You think now is a good time to go public with this shit? We said we would never do that. We can’t do that.”
About the Author:
RJ Scott has been writing since age six, when she was made to stay in at lunchtime for an infraction involving cookies. She was told to write a story and two sides of paper about a trapped princess later, a lover of writing was born.
As an avid reader herself, she can be found reading anything from thrillers to sci-fi to horror. However, her first real true love will always be the world of romance where she takes cowboys, bodyguards, firemen and billionaires (to name a few) and writes dramatic and romantic stories of love and passion between these men.
With over sixty titles to her name and counting, she is the author of the award winning book, The Christmas Throwaway. She is also known for the Texas series charting the lives of Riley and Jack, and the Sanctuary series following the work of the Sanctuary Foundation and the people it protects.
Her goal is to write stories with a heart of romance, a troubled road to reach happiness, and most importantly, that hint of a happily ever after.
