With international flights crisscrossing the skies on an hourly basis, are we ever really safe?

When a strain of the Ebola virus mutates; it spreads quickly leaving the medical community shattered. People are dropping in the streets and life, as most know it, comes to an end. Two city dweller survivors, Dean and William, are forced to flee the city and live in the wilderness—where dangers lurk behind every tree and in every valley. Not everyone alive after the end is good, and William and Dean are faced with challenges that would bring many to their knees.

Growing up in the hood of Atlanta, Dean knows how to overcome trials, but he knows nothing of love. Can he sustain a relationship with William, or will his doubts end them before they even have a chance?

From birth William has had a silver spoon in his mouth and two in each hand, but the end brings him face to face with reality where he has to take responsibility for his life. After the end, money has no meaning, and life is lived on the edge.

Join William and Dean after the end and find out how close to the edge they come.

I usually don’t sleep very well most nights. Sometimes it’s books coming at me, or life in general. After The End kept me up quite a bit while I was writing the story. Dean and William go through most of high school with Dean being nothing more than a booty call to William. Dean’s okay with being the guy William calls to get off with because he doesn’t see any way to change the situation. Both Dean and William feel trapped and unable to break free.

William is a poor but very smart kid from the wrong side of town. With some hard work and a bit of luck, he receives a scholarship to Blackwell Preparatory where he meets William. The kids at Blackwell Prep are at the top of the food chain as far as wealth goes. Dean puts on the tough act instead of bowing to their pressure or trying to fit in. He’s his own man, and William respects him for it.

As much as William respects Dean, he can’t offer him what he really wants—a true relationship. Instead, William stupidly offers Dean money, trying to get him to stay in town instead of heading off to Boston.

Both William and Dean twist the truth and never show their true feelings until everything changes. If life had kept going at the normal pace, neither Dean nor William would have told the other how they truly feel.

My nightly writing sessions on this book, when I should have been sleeping, were tinged with the darkness. After The End deals with the pain of not being able to really speak the truth about how you feel about another. Both Dean and William care about each other, but because of their circumstances they can’t reveal the truth. After society ends and everyone is gone, they can finally show their true feelings.
I found it easier in the middle of the night to imagine what it would be like if everything was different, if society totally changed and the number of people was greatly diminished. I hope you enjoy William and Dean’s story and see how close to the edge they come.

Excerpt:

Anger flashed through Dean. He hated that William had spied on him, searching out his home and figuring out how poor he really was. “I’ll come home for you.” It was probably a lie, but he wasn’t going to tell William. He just wanted to leave here with some part of his heart intact.
“Please take the money. I can’t stand the thought of you not being able to eat.”
William was right, he needed the cash. His parents were rarely at home and if they were, they didn’t help him. He hated agreeing to take the money, but if he had a few extra dollars in his pocket he’d not go hungry this weekend.
“Fine, I’ll take it this time, but never again.” Dean stepped close, his voice going low. “You got that, never again.”
“Okay.” William kissed him quickly, the sweetness gone. Then he popped Dean on the ass before hurrying to the door. “I’ve got to get back to the party. Wait a few minutes before you come out.”
Dean watched William leave, wondering if he’d ever come over here again. Now that William knew the truth, everything was different. He took a piss and wiped up the mess he’d made with William before heading into his bedroom. Dean didn’t take the money from underneath his pillow. Instead, he dropped to the mattress and rolled to his side, slowly sliding his hand under the pillow. The bills stopped his progress and he sighed. The stack was huge. He hoped they were twenties or tens, not anything bigger. William was extravagant. On more than one occasion, Dean had to tell William he was giving him too much. Of course that was always food, or concert tickets, never money. He’d accepted the other stuff because William always had an excuse, like he’d bought too many burgers, or he couldn’t attend a concert. This was totally different. The money changed things between them. They were changing anyway, so it wasn’t that big of a deal, but he hated that William had given him money and that he needed it.
