A novella from the Love Story Universe
At fifteen, Christopher falls in love with a boy whose life he saves. But things go wrong and four years later, he wishes he’d acted differently. His conscience begins to haunt him, and he knows he must find Summer again.
At seventeen, Summer pushes away the boy who saved him. Four years later, he is stuck in an abusive, damaging relationship. When he sees Christopher again, it’s a sign he can’t go on living like he is, but he can’t begin to see a way out.
For either boy to stand a chance at happiness, they must find each other and obliterate the wrongs of their shared past.
We are here today to talk about Wild Summer, your latest release from Harmony Ink. What can you tell us about it?
Wild Summer is a story about love and how love can be reclaimed even when you think it lost. It touches a little on domestic abuse. But overall it is pretty low angst.
It’s a stand-alone spin off to This is Not a Love Story.
Crash/Christopher (you do find out about where he gets his name from in this) is a secondary character from This is Not a Love Story, and this story spans 4 years of his life. It starts before This is Not a Love Story begins (when Christopher is 15) and ends beyond it (when he is 19). It tells the tale of how he lost his first love Summer and what happens when they find one another again.
Romeo and Julian, from This is Not a Love Story, do make a brief appearance too ☺
Tell us more about Crash and Summer.
Crash is a character with boundless energy. ‘Always moving forward and never looking back’ as another character once described him. He is very loyal and true.
The following is my favorite description of Summer. It’s from the very beginning of the story, when they first meet:
For a moment Christopher couldn’t move, could only stare into the terrified boy’s eyes, thinking he’d never been this close to someone with such unusual, startlingly light-colored eyes—almost golden—and with his electric shock of blue hair and smooth caramel skin, Christopher felt as if he’d caught a fairy or some other magical creature who, on being captured, would perhaps screw his eyes shut and hold his breath and just… disappear, leaving Christopher holding a pile of dirty clothes.
Wild Summer is a spin-off from This Is Not a Love Story, when did you know the Crash needed his own story?
I finished At the End of Everything (the second book in This is Not a Love Story in May last year-it was published online back then) and I had a lot of comments from the first readers to please write Crash’s story. He was a firm favorite, so I was a little influenced by them I think. But it took a long time for him to make his story known. That first chapter was written nearly ten months before I knew exactly which direction the story wanted to go in.
What tool do you use to plan scenes? (such as index cards, white board, ouiji board, etc)
Haha ouiji board.
Mostly it’s staring into space for hours on end, running, walking (movement helps me think).
In Harry Potter, what one spell would you have written in that JK Rowling didn’t?
Well, I guess she kind of did write it, but I’d make a better time travel one.
You lock three M/M authors in a room and drop in one item. Who are the authors, what is the item, and what happens?
Who are the authors-the first 3 I can get my hands on.
What is the item-is a note book too obvious? Yes, probably. Camera? ☺
What happens- LOL I get arrested…?
