Artist and playboy beach bum Sam’s life is turned around when he meets blind Kieran and falls hard for him. Kieran is fiercely independent and doesn’t need a man like Sam in his life. But Sam needs a man like Kieran and it’s up to him to persuade Kieran he’s worth a shot.
One day while driving down the beach road, Sam spots an attractive, obviously blind guy holding a sign that reads “TAXI”. Player that he is, Sam decides to hit on the blind hottie by pretending to be a cabbie, but once he has the guy in his car, Sam changes his mind and lets him out without making a move. Sam thinks this is it and has almost forgotten about the whole episode a few hours later. But then there’s a knock on his door, and Sam opens it to a rather unpleasant surprise…
Actually a talented painter, Sam had neglected his art for a while now, whiling away his days on the beach and hooking up with random guys. Meeting Kieran – and meeting with Kieran’s rather harsh rebuff – serves as some kind of wake-up call for Sam, and he, who’s used to men dropping into his lap like ripe plums, turns all his time and energy into courting Kieran.
I loved how this book started with seemingly weaker “helpless” blind Kieran teaching arrogant, self-possessed Sam a lesson he wouldn’t forget. But once their romance got underway, the story more or less trickled along like a peaceful brook. Not that there weren’t some rapids to overcome for them, and not that it wasn’t pleasant to accompany Sam on his road to real committment. But somehow, I couldn’t quite get into the narrative; the story, as cute and romantic as it was, left me a bit cold.
To sum it up, I’d recommend this book as a not overly demanding, entertaining read.
