Author: Julie Bozza

Blurb:

Dave and Nicholas, married for seven years now, are happily settled together – but as an Australian prime minister once observed, “Life wasn’t meant to be easy.” An unexpected threat to their beloved waterhole forces Dave to try asserting unofficial custodianship of the Dreamtime site, and a visit from Nicholas’s nephew Robin doesn’t help as he brings his own surprises. And there’s always the question of Nicholas’s health hanging over their heads…

G’day! This is Julie Bozza. I’m delighted to be here on the Prism Book Alliance site today, and I’m very grateful to them for the opportunity to talk about my latest book, the third in the Butterfly Hunter trilogy.

Recurring Dreams:

At the risk of throwing myself open to all manner of analysis, I am going to tell you about a recurring dream I used to have. I haven’t had one of these for a while now, but they were always so vivid, and have continued to stay with me.

The location was always different, but the gist of it was this: I was trekking or hiking to rediscover some wonderful place that I had visited once before, but I could never quite find it again. It was kind of a lost Shangri–La, I suppose. I would continue on and on, tired yet dogged, along the path I thought must lead there, but somehow I never quite saw the right turning. I would pass it by without realising, and I would always wake with a sense of defeat and yearning.

Why am I telling you this…? I’m wondering that myself right now! But it was this very sense of trying to rediscover the right path to an elusive hidden land that I drew on when writing about Dave trying to return to the waterhole in the Butterfly Hunter books. His instinct draws him on in some instances, and misleads him in others; his memory again may or may not be helpful. He has to have faith in himself in order to even try.

Just to complicate matters, I threw another element into the mix: He has to not need it too much. He has to just let it happen. Again, he has to have faith that things will unfold as they should. This applies to the relationship story as well in the novel, with Dave needing to let go of his notions of how his life will be, and let the unplanned things happen. To let go of his love for Denise, and give his attraction to and connection with Nicholas the chance to grow.

Dave and Nicholas’s journey has now continued on into a third (and final) book, titled The Thousand Smiles of Nicholas Goring. I am very happy that so many of you have joined them on their journey so far. I hope you will enjoy this conclusion to their story!
