Blurb:

When Morgan discovers Fate has given him a two-mate package deal, he should have known there would be a catch.

Jumping through a Mage portal on some sort of instinctual autopilot probably hadn’t been the best decision of Morgan’s life, but it did lead him to two pieces of his soul, trapped in not only a cage, but also their animal forms.
Owen and Ridley never thought they’d be free again, living a life of captivity and pain, until a sexy Guardian breaks them out and offers them forever.
While Ridley hungers for Morgan, Owen just wishes the mate-stealing merman would walk away and forget about them both. He may not have to worry about his future for long, though. It’s Halloween, and the veil is once again at its weakest. Denzel has failed to break through before, but this time, he has a secret weapon…

PizzyGirl’s View:

Shifting the Veil is book 9 in the Preternatural Rescue Centre series and it does a good job of setting up more aspects of the upcoming finale in the war between the guardians and the shadowkin. We finally get to see Toby, in person, and get a bit more information into his role in this battle. I cannot wait to learn more of his story and see him finally free!

However, I have to say that this is my least favorite of the series so far. But it is not because of the writing or the story itself, but because I had such high expectations and such a different view of what I was hoping would happen.

This story finally gets us onto the bad guy’s side of the veil and is all about the merman Morgan. We have our chance to see what is going on in the other camp and get a glimpse of what is coming! Right? Maybe? Not so much.

This entire story was very subdued and things were just too easy. Morgan almost casually walks into enemy territory and takes his mates home. Yes there is a small struggle with a mage, but no real resistance. Unlike the other stories so far, there are no huge action sequences and Morgan’s mating was rather quiet and slow. For someone so sexualized in previous stories (to the point of needing ointment due to masturbating so much), this story was rather sedate and non eventful.

I understand the point of this story. It was necessary to set up the growing war and to advance the plot. But I was disappointed. I have been waiting for Morgan’s mating for a while. Morgan has always been highly sexual and snarky. His story was neither and that was a letdown for me. However, I am still in love with this series and totally invested in the outcome of the war. I am still eager for the remaining stories and look forward to more from this world.
