After too many holidays alone, Russ Bishop and Stephen Parker decide to invite Russ’ family to spend Christmas with them. Russ wants to repair the fractured relationships with his father and sister, and Stephen wants to feel like he’s part of a family. But when Russ’ sister, Addie, brings an unexpected guest, it makes an already challenging situation more complicated. The Christmas Stephen gets may not be as perfect as the one he imagined but perhaps happiness can be found in the flaws.
I, like many fans, love to catch up with our favorite characters at the holidays. We like to see how they celebrate. We like to see them happy. Family by Brigham Vaugh catches up with Stephen and Russ from her Equals series.
Unlike many holiday novellas, however, Vaughn offers us a full story in the lives of Stephen and Russ. She moves their collective story forward. We see them interacting with and growing their relationship to Russ’ sister and father. We see that everything isn’t roses, but they are united in their lives and moving forward at a realistic pace. We see them thankful for what has come before and ready for what is to come. In short, we leave our heroes in a good place. We also set up a potential spin-off (please, oh please Ms. Vaughn).
Family takes place over the Christmas Holidays. Specifically Russ and Stephen’s first Christmas together. They celebrate with Russ’ family. There isn’t any major conflict, but there are little issues that arise. These small issues help us to see just how good Russ and Stephen are together. They allow us to believe the boys are in it for the long haul.
Family is a satisfying installment in the story of Russ and Stephen. If you haven’t yet picked up Equals and Partners, I can’t recommend them enough. If you are, like me, already a little in love with these two, Family is a must read.
I would like to thank the author for providing me with the eARC of this title in exchange for my honest opinion.
