Trent returns to his family’s ancestral home, where he experienced his first kiss and first heartbreak.
To honor his grandmother’s final request, Trenton Appleton drops everything to visit the family’s ancestral home: Hummingbird House, where he experienced his first kiss and first heartbreak with Callum Eason.
Eight years ago, confused by his attraction to Trent, Callum reacted badly. But with help he never expected, Callum found himself and learned to accept who he was.
Now Trent is back at Hummingbird House, and Callum has his opportunity to salvage their friendship, at least. But Trent is less receptive than he was all those years ago. Still, Callum is determined to show Trent he has changed and keep his promise to Trent’s grandmother. When past mistakes repeat themselves, Callum must break the cycle before his last chance with Trent passes him by.
Hummingbird House by Kenzie Cade is a sweet second chance romance that takes place over the Christmas holidays. Was that enough of a mouthful for you?
Trent is grieving the loss of the only mom he has ever known, his paternal grandmother. That loss sends him across the pond from Massachusetts to England and the family home, also known as Hummingbird House. The last time he was in the small village where the house stands, his heart was broken by the one man to whom he has subconsciously compared all others, Cal.
First person narrative by Trent is coupled with third person flashbacks and insight by Cal to give you a rich picture of the devastation the rejection of a first love can bring. Trent doesn’t want to believe Cal has changed, so Cal has to make him believe it. Of course it all takes place over Christmas… the time for meddling family to interfere just enough to make sure two soulmates find each other.
I fully expect Hummingbird House to go onto my Christmas re-reads list.
